What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging
Weekly Updates and Information about What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging – in Studio and Out.
Hey everybody. It’s Ruth.
I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon. It’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This is what’s happening the week of February 22nd.
This week we are focusing most of our update on our foundational studio value, joy. But first I want to let you know what’s on the calendar.
So upcoming on our studio calendar, we have next Friday March 5th: first Friday open studio. more information about that coming soon.
Then the week of March 22nd is off. We have spring break that week and so we will be off for all classes in the studio. And for some of you, you may have a makeup class coming to be scheduled and we’ll look at options for scheduling those maybe during spring break. But more to come on that very soon.
The first Fridays in April, May and June, of course the first Fridays of every month, we have open studio. We are just waiting to give you updates on what’s happening for those first Fridays, as we hear more about reopening guidelines and what we might be able to do. So, just stay tuned for all of the info/updates on our first Friday open studios.
Also, please keep on your calendars some very important dates in May. May 14th and 15th, that is our Nationals competition in Salt Lake City and all of our competitors should plan now to participate in Nationals.
Also, May 29th, that’s a Saturday, it’s the last Saturday in May. We will be holding our all studio summer kickoff dress rehearsal and recital at the Historic Grand in Salem.
So, please for sure keep those dates on your calendar. Those are very important.
Now I want to talk about our studio value. So, last late last year we introduced our five studio values, with a short introduction to each and we promised to delve a little bit more into each studio value in the future. So that’s what we’re going to do here.
Our first studio value, it’s our foundational studio value, is joy.
And I’m just going to read you my blog article on joy.
THE FOUNDATION OF DANCE
Each dancer is unique.
Some are master technicians.
Some are born performers.
Some are excited about dancing with their friends.
Some are a bit shy.
Some are happy when they sweat with the music.
Some are eager to hear their feet making rhythmic sounds.
But, throughout my years of dancing and teaching, I’ve found there is one thing all lasting dancers have in common.
It’s something that grabs hold of them the very first moment they begin their clogging journey and doesn’t let go.
From the moment they put on their clogging shoes.
From the moment they hear the jingle of their taps.
From the moment they start clomping on the dance floor in their clinky shoes.
From the moment they learn to make wonderful rhythms with their feet.
I see it radiate from every part of them.
I see it in the smile on their face.
I see it in the sparkle in their eye.
I see it in the energy of their movements.
I hear it in the tone of their voice.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s a youth student or an adult student.
When I see it in them, it’s truly magical.
What is it that I see?
I see joy.
Joy is so important to a dancer’s long-lasting journey, that it’s in everything our students do at Silver Creek Clogging.
Joy is in learning a new skill or technique.
Joy is in working hard to earn a pass-off button.
Joy is in the exhilaration of a performance.
Joy is in finding out the song for the next routine.
Joy is in friendships with teammates.
Joy is in the rhythms and movements.
Joy is in getting lost inside of yourself when you dance.
The joy starts with a spark and, for the lasting dancer, it continues to grow into the knowledge that when they are dancing they are comfortable, happy, and confident; and they are fully and completely themselves.
And that – is when they truly shine with joy; when they are fully and completely themselves.
Maryanne Williamson wrote, “We are all meant to shine. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”
At Silver Creek Clogging, we believe…
…the deep-down joy you feel when you are on the dance floor is the heart of it all.
And that is our foundational studio value. Joy so important.
And with that I wish you, Happy Dancing!
Hey everyone! It’s Ruth.
I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon. It’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of February 15th.
And, boy, it has been a wild weekend. I know a lot of you are dealing with power outages that have lasted for days on end. I know at our house the power is out and has been out since Friday. I been a devastating, a devastating weather event here in this area and I’m really thinking of all of our students.
Also, I want to turn our attention to a little bit of a happier note, which is our competition this last weekend in Boise.
Our students did awesome this last weekend. I just want to say we had six competitors (four advanced, one intermediate and one beginning), and they rocked it. With those six students we had a combined, let me see let me make sure I don’t say this the wrong way. We had a combined 25 first place awards. We had two second place awards. And, we had three master soloist awards (that means that three of our students competed all five all-around solos in their skill level and got first place in all five solos, so that’s awesome, they are master soloists). We had one student achieve a high gold and that means that they had 98 percent points possible they got 98 percent of the points possible in their event so that’s 29.5 or higher out of 30 possible which is awesome!
Yay, Silver Creek Clogging students! I’m so proud of how well you all did this last weekend in competition. Every single one of our students qualified for Nationals, our team routine qualified for Nationals, duet qualified for Nationals, every single one of our soloists qualified for Nationals. Awesome! Yay!
And, I kind of really wanted to keep this next little announcement a secret. I was going to announce it at class tonight for the advanced students in their team class tonight but, considering that class is kind of up in the air with everything that’s going on with this weather event that we just had, I just couldn’t keep it in. Plus, I’m super excited about it because it’s just really, really awesome.
But, our studio won a Overall Studio Grand Champion award in the advanced level.
We were one of three studios that had the most wins in the advanced level and we were awarded, along with those other two studios, as an Overall Studio Grand Champion.
I think this is huge for us. One, because we had four advanced students at competition and those four advanced students won so many first place awards that we -our studio, with our six students- placed in the top three among studios who had dozens of competitors at competition. So, look at us go.
I’m just thrilled! I feel like, you know, those other two studios who were named Overall Studio Grand Champions with us in the advanced level, they’ve been competing for a lot of years. They are well respected in the western clogging world and one of those studios has several National Championships under their belt. So, we’re in really, really good company.
I think this says a lot about our program.
But, even more so, I think it says a lot about our students who – they set their goals, they were focused on what they wanted to achieve, they worked hard, and then they achieved what they had set out to do.
So, I am really, really proud of every single one of our competitors who worked hard, brought everything they had to competition, and did such an amazing job.
And, I’m really excited to see our students continue to grow and continue to just be in the best, with the best. Really, really awesome.
Please remember, for our competitors, that Nationals -clogging Nationals- is in May it’s on May 14th and 15th. That’s in Salt Lake City.
It will be held at Lagoon Amusement Park and all of our competitors, all of those competitors who participated in Boise and qualified for Nationals should start planning now to participate in that May 14th and 15th, okay?
So, we don’t know what the schedule is yet. So far America OnStage has been operating in studio blocks. So, if they continue that process, depending on how COVID protocols go, we will be assigned our studio block, just like we were in Boise, and we’ll come and perform all of our stuff and then leave.
The competition event fees are a little higher for Nationals. You’ll see that in your email. But, still very comparable to what they were for this regional event.
And, at Nationals there’s an opportunity to do a dance-off (an All-American dance-off), that’s only for students who are advanced level or higher. And, I’ll talk with the advanced students about the dance off and what that means for them if they want to participate in that. But, it is optional. It’s not required.
And, all of the fees, all of that, that’s in your email. So, check that out.
But, please do plan now… start planning now to participate in Nationals May 14th and 15th. It’s just in a few months down the road.
Let us know if you have any questions.
For classes this week, we are planning to hold classes. I know right now that there are several of us without power, without internet. So, if you’re scheduled to attend virtually we’ll keep you updated with any updates as we have them.
Also, we will be sending students home with a special Valentine Day surprise for your families, whom we love so much! Anyway, we’ll be sending that home.
We just want you to know that we appreciate you and we love you and so you’ll just get a little token of our appreciation sent home with your student this week.
Also, please, students be prepared to come to class and share a little love with your classmates by bringing a happy story or thought about your team that you want to share in class. Okay, yeah, that’s what we’re going to do this week.
Coming up, we will have first Friday as scheduled the first Friday of March, April and May. Those are on the calendar, so just keep those on your calendars.
March 22nd, that whole week, no classes for spring break. We will have a couple of makeup lessons to be scheduled, so we might end up scheduling those during spring break, depending on how things go.
And then, of course in May, super important events.
May 14th and 15th- that’s our Nationals competition, for our competitors. Remember, just plan now to attend.
And then, May 29th is our, our uh, spring kickoff. Goll, I had to remember what season this is, with everything that’s been going on this year, my mind it just gets a little bit muddled, but that is our spring kickoff recital – summer kickoff recital in Salem. So, please keep that day on your calendars.
I want to leave you this week with our quote of the week, “Sometimes you just have to jump out the window and grow wings on the way down.” And, Ray Bradbury said that. I really love that quote.
And, with that, I will say… happy dancing!
Hello, it’s Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon. It’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of February 8th.
We have several announcements this week, so we’re just gonna get right to it.
First: competition is this Friday in Boise. Super excited! Just a couple of notes, for those who are attending Boise competition in person. We will meet this Friday, February 12th at the Nampa Civic Center at 11:00am sharp and then we will go on the competition circuit.
Remember that masks are required at all times while inside the facility and the only exception is while dancers are on stage dancing. So, you’ll wear your mask all the time immediately up until you get on stage, then you’ll go on stage, you’ll dance and then you’ll put your mask right back on.
Another thing. Audience. As of now, there are no audience members allowed except for the instructors, directors, coaches and the dancers. However, there is a chance that could change. If it does change, we will let you know as soon as we know. We just got an email yesterday, from America OnStage, indicating that updates these days come more frequently than usual. So, they’re gonna just keep us up to date with all the info. So, if there are audience members allowed we will definitely let you know.
Another update regarding the competition is that for all Thursday classes this week, they’re going to be conducted online. So, if you have a class that’s on Thursday, just get ready to do that online and Brooklyn, who has been one of our fantastic instructors here at Silver Creek Clogging, will be substituting in those classes. So, that’ll be kind of fun to get to dance with Brooklyn this week. It’ll be super awesome.
One last reminder about our updated phone number and our office/admin hours is that we’re gonna make the final switch this week. So, if you haven’t already updated your contact information for Silver Creek Clogging in your address book, please do that with our new phone number which is: 503-874-6458. Because, we’re cutting off that old number this week, okay?
And then, just remember our office hours Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 to 5:00 and Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 3:00. That’s just when we’re regularly monitoring our emails and phone calls and texts and such. So, just an update on that.
I also want to give you an update on our instructor certification course. So, this is something that we had announced at the end of September last year; that we were going to roll that out early this year and I just want to update you on that.
We are putting all the final touches on that. We’re kind of waiting to see how things go with COVID before we actually hit the start date on that, but all the details on that instructor certification course are in your email.
Just a couple of things. One, you’ve got to be a currently enrolled Silver Creek Clogging student for the duration of the program and the subsequent student teaching requirement in order to be eligible to take the course; you’ve got to be at least at a high intermediate (so, a level two intermediate) in order to take the course; you have to be able to demonstrate a high level of technical proficiency and quality of your sounds, including an energy of presentation, and that’s going to be determined by Silver Creek Clogging (that’s another requirement to be able to take the course); and you also need to commit to do the program, complete all the requirements, complete the post program student teaching requirement; attend, participate, all of that; and those are the requirements as of now. If there’s any other requirements, we’ll have that in your application. So, there will be an application to enroll.
We will be learning several things. It’ll be between an eight to ten week course. We’ll be learning… The first week, we’ll have an introduction to the course and an introduction to Silver Creek Clogging’s philosophy to dance education. So, that will be the first week.
The second week we’ll learn about music; like how to select a song per skill level and so forth, how to map out a song to choreograph, how to edit the music, all that kind of stuff. That’s what our second week is going to be.
Then, our third and fourth weeks we’ll do choreography. So, we’ll learn about selecting the steps based on your skill level, how to use formations and arm movements and that kind of thing. Those are… that’s going to take us two weeks.
The following week, we’ll do class structure and leadership. So, we’ll learn about the lesson planning and how to run your class and how to manage the team interactions and all of that kind of thing. So, that will be the next week.
The following two weeks, we’ll do teaching and instructional techniques. So, we’ll be learning about breaking down the steps, breaking down techniques, how to review and troubleshoot items with students. We’ll talk about and learn how to do advanced queuing, all that kind of stuff.
And then we will have our final week. It will be a certification exam and a celebration.
So, that will take us through eight weeks. If needed, we have two additional weeks built in that, you know, if we need to take extra time, an extra week, on some of those more critical/time consuming items, then we’ll have those extra two weeks kind of as needed or optional, just depending on how things go.
We, as of now, are tentatively planning to begin the first part of April. But, of course, all of that’s going to depend on the COVID guidance in place. What we’re hoping for is that we’ll be able to roll out this course in time for students to complete that eight to ten week course this spring and then also have time to do their post-program student teaching requirements, so that then they’ll be poised to take on a class either fall to winter. So, that would be really, really awesome.
And, anyone who completes the program successfully, they pass the certification course, they successfully complete the post-program student teaching requirement, they will be eligible to apply for teaching jobs at Silver Creek Clogging in the future. Yeah? Yeah. It’s gonna be awesome.
So, we’re gonna have an eight to ten week program. It’s $150. It includes all the weekly classes, there’s a course workbook and, if you pass the certification exam, then you can go on to get your post course student teaching mentorship; which will be required for being fully certified.
So, I’m really excited about this course of training our up and coming clogging instructors. We’re the front runners in our area and it’s really awesome to see. I’m really excited uh yeah so that’s that please let us know if you have any questions about that.
Also, I want to let you know what’s on the calendar. So, of course, this Friday is competition. Check out the America OnStage Facebook page, if you want to see livestreaming.
March, April, May (the first Friday of all of those months) we’re gonna have first Friday open studio. We’ll see how that goes, as far as you know what we’re gonna do on those days, depending on COVID and all that stuff. But, please keep those on your calendar; we’ll do that every first Friday.
Also, March, the week of March 22nd, we will not have classes at all. So, please put that on your calendar, because it’s spring break. So, we’ll just take a little week off, get a break. That’ll be awesome.
May, please keep the following dates on your calendar. May 14th and 15th, Nationals competition in Salt Lake City, our qualifying students/routines will be participating in that.
And then, the last Saturday in May, we’re going to do our recital at the Historic Grand in Salem, so please keep that on your calendars as well.
This week, I want to leave you with our quote of the week. This is something that Les Brown said. This really spoke to me.
Les Brown said, “If you set goals and go after them with all the determination you can muster, your gifts will take you places that will amaze you.”
And, one of the reasons this really spoke to me, is because it talked about the gifts that you have. You have your own unique talents and gifts that can take you amazing places. So, remember: set your goals, work hard to achieve them and then enjoy your amazingness.
Prepare to be amazed by your amazingness. There you go, that’s the thought.
And, of course, remember… happy dancing!
Hi everyone. It’s Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon, and this is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of February 1st.
Happy February! Yes!
And we have some exciting news today, on this first day of February. We are going to be back in the studio this week. So, with the new guidance that was issued last week, we’re able to begin holding classes in the studio again.
However, there is a new distancing protocol that we need to follow as part of these new guidelines; which means that we need to have 25 feet between everybody in the studio. So, with that our available class size in the studio at any one time is limited even farther than it was before.
However, for most classes it won’t mean anything to your class. You’ll just need to come. We have enough room for everyone in most of our classes. So, that’s great news.
However, for teams Dynamite and Heat, we’re gonna implement like an A/B schedule. So, you’ll trade off attending online and in person so we can give everybody a chance to be in the studio. You have a couple of schedules to choose from. That’s in your email.
For Team Dynamite and Team Heat, just respond to the email and let us know what your preferred schedule is from the A/B, whichever one of those. So whichever one you’re in the studio for, you’ll be in the studio, and then the next class you’ll be online and other people will be in the studio. Just so we’ll trade back and forth. So, just make sure check your email, that you got last night, with all the details of that.
And, of course, if you’re not on either Team Dynamite or Team Heat, you just can show up to the studio at your scheduled time – a couple minutes ahead of your schedule time. We’ll complete all the same check-in procedures that we used to complete when we were in the studio just before Thanksgiving. So, yeah that’s that!
I’m so excited to be able to see most of you in the studio this week for classes. It’s going to be awesome.
All right, so just a quick reminder that our phone number here at the studio has changed. If you haven’t done so already, please update your address book with the new contact information for Silver Creek Clogging. Our new phone number is 503-874-6458. You can call or you can text on that line. Just be aware that it might not always be me who’s responding to your calls and texts. So, FYI on that.
And then, our regular office hours and administration hours are as follows: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nine to five and then Tuesday and Thursday nine to three. So, if it’s outside of those hours you’ll just get a like auto respond that says, “Hey, our office is closed and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.”
So just make sure to update your contact info for us, because we do not want to miss your call or your text. We like to hear from you, so please connect with us and yeah that’ll be awesome.
So quick update on Boise competition. We’re going to prepare for that. This is the week for that, on Saturday actually. So Saturday is two things.
One, we’re going to have a question and answer session online via google meet at 9:30am. It should last about 30 minutes, maybe you know plus or minus 10. To just kind of give you a little layout, answer your questions make sure we’re all prepared for when we show up in Boise to compete.
The other thing that’s happening on Saturday is at 10:30am, anyone who is participating virtually is invited to show up at the studio at their scheduled time and have us video your events – your virtual events.
So, there’s a schedule of when people need to come.
The required people who need to come to the studio to video are Team Dynamite, for Rhythm Nation (we’re gonna video that at the studio) and then Abby and Gwen, we’re gonna video your duet. Everybody else it’s optional. If you prefer to video your individual events at home you can do that and we can give you some tips on how to do that at our 9:30am meeting.
But, please know that you are welcome and invited and we would be thrilled to help you with your videos on Saturday, at your scheduled time if you would like us to do that. So, we are excited to do that.
I also want to announce our top three practicers for the month of January. They are Gwen, Sydney and Teresa. Yay! Congratulations you guys.
We will be putting your names into the hat and drawing a winner for our practicer of the month prize during classes this week. So that should be fun. I love the practicer of the month.
Upcoming, on Friday this week, we have our first Friday open studio, and this month we are going to do just a regular old open studio, virtual style.
So, what we’ll do is, we’ll just open up open studio on google meet at 6:30. Anybody who wants to come and get like you know a critique, get help with technique, you can just kind of come and show up. And that’s what we’ll do.
This will be good for those of you preparing for your competition videos or even competition in Boise either this Saturday or next Friday. So yeah, that’s what we’re gonna do, starting at 6:30 and we’ll wrap it up around 7:30 or 8:00, just depending on who’s there. So you can join just by the link on your student dashboard. So that’s that.
February 12th, we will be competing in the Idaho kickoff competition in Boise. I’m excited that we’re going to be able to dance. That will be awesome.
Upcoming, we have open studios scheduled for the first Fridays of March, April and May, so please keep those on your calendars.
Also, March – the week of March 22nd is spring break and we don’t have any classes scheduled for that week. So, just heads up for that.
Please also, especially for our competitors, keep May 14th and 15th on your calendars. That is the Nationals competition in Salt Lake City. So, I’m really looking forward to having some amazing qualifiers.
And, then May 29th, this is our super, super important day for all of our studio students. We will be participating… this is our spring kickoff dress rehearsal and recital. On that Saturday, we’ll have our dress rehearsal in the morning and we’ll have our recital in the early afternoon or sorry… late afternoon / early evening. So, just make sure to keep that date on your calendars. And that’s that.
Lots of info this week. Lots to look forward to. I’m really excited to have you guys in the studio this week. It’s gonna be awesome.
Please, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We love to hear from you. We love to have questions. So, please, please, please… On our brand-new phone number, we would love to hear from you.
We appreciate you. I just think you guys are an amazing community. So super supportive.
You guys have been amazingly supportive of each other and of us as a studio all through this pandemic, as we’ve been working to comply with the ever-changing string of guidance and closures and openings and all this. You guys have been so super supportive of us and I really appreciate you, and I’m so grateful for you, and I want to wish you happy dancing.
Hi everyone. It’s Ruth and I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging dance and movement center, in Silverton, Oregon; the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of January 25th.
At the very top of the list for updates and information this week is… drumroll… we are changing our studio phone number. The old phone number is going to be phased out over the next few weeks and we will be using the following new phone number: 503-874-6458. You can reach us either by voice or text or both (but not at the same time) at that number.
Yeah, so just remember, we’re phasing out that old number and this is our new number starting today; so, just start using that number.
Also, we’re going to be introducing some, kind of, formal office hours/administration hours at the studio. We haven’t had formal office and administration hours at the studio, so we’re gonna start implementing those now.
So, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday we will be having office/administration hours from 9:00am to 5:00pm and on Tuesday and Thursday it’s from 9:00am to 3:00pm. So, those are the hours during which we’ll be regularly monitoring and responding to messages, emails, phone calls and so forth. So, just keep that in mind and make note of that.
Also, one thing that we’re… one of our goals in making this change is to be able to give you a more, like, overall well-rounded, customer service experience.
So as part of that… that’s what this change is and this change is going to enable us to have more than one person monitoring and responding to phone calls and text messages. So, just know that it won’t always be me responding to you guys.
So, we’re hopeful that that will help us achieve our goal of improving our customer service and hopefully you guys will let us know, give us some feedback on, how well we’re meeting that goal for you.
So, just remember, update your contact info/your address book for Silver Creek Clogging with our brand-new number: 503-874-6458, okay?
Next update: Boise competition. We received an update yesterday, with a ton of information about how the Boise competition is going to be run for COVID protocol and I’ve emailed you kind of a summary of some of the key points for that.
So, just really quickly, a couple of updates:
They’re doing studio blocks. So, each studio will come at their assigned time, will perform all of their routines (solos, duets, everything) during the studio block. Then, they will leave and the next studio will come in.
So, they’ll have an award ceremony at the end of the whole competition. They’ll be running that online, on a livestream on their Facebook page (America Onstage Facebook page). So, you can watch that.
And, a couple of other things: Audience. They’re limited as to audience that can be allowed in the venue and that’s based on COVID protocols and maximum occupancy numbers and so forth. So, as of now, they are allowing dancers, directors, instructors, coaches and that’s all. So, we will be able to set up our video/iPad to get a video and so we can share the video with you. They will attempt to livestream all of the performances but, because of music copyright, there are a lot of times when the Facebook will kind of kick off or delete the livestream if the music is not allowed per the copyright. So, you can watch on their Facebook page for the livestream. But, just know, in case there’s any trouble, we will be recording it.
For COVID protocols, masks are going to be required at all times by everyone who is at the venue. The only exception is for dancers when they are on stage. You have the option to dance without a mask while you are on stage. Just know that that’s not necessarily a requirement, but it is an option. So, that’s the only place and the only time when masks will not be required. All other times you will have to wear a mask. So (dancers, coaches, instructors, directors), everybody will wear masks at all times, except if you choose not to wear one while you’re on stage.
A couple of other things they’re gonna have as part of their studio blocks: They’re gonna have everybody… they’ve got like a choreographed movement through the venue to allow for COVID safety protocols.
So, we will arrive at a pre-designated location, at our pre-designated time. They will have a representative who will meet us there and take us on to the next location, where we are performing some of our events we’ll perform. Then, we will stop and we’ll move on to another of our events we’ll perform. We’ll stop and then we’ll move on to the end, where they will give us our results and our awards as a studio, there, and then we will leave.
So, the detail of all of that is on the on the email that I sent to you guys yesterday.
If we have any awards to pick up at at the end of the competition. We will get pick those up at the end of the time Saturday, at the conclusion of the competition, for any overall awards. But, most of the awards, like for individual events and what place we got for our individual events, we’ll get those right at the conclusion of our block. But, for the whole competition event, we’ll go pick up any awards that we win at the end of the whole competition. So, that’s the deal, there.
Again, studio blocks. Right now, we have been scheduled a studio block for Friday, February 12th. That is still subject to change. That’s the preliminary time right now. They’re still doing some final tweaks to the schedule. So, just heads up that, as they finalize the schedule it could change and we will update you with the final time as soon as we have it.
And we, here as a studio, are going to be hosting a competition preparation/question and answer session via video conference. That’s set for Saturday, February 6th and the time’s to be determined. But, at this point, we’re planning to set aside 45 minutes to an hour to just kind of review what’s happening, get us prepared for the live, in person session at Boise, and answer any questions that you have.
Even if you are not planning to attend Boise this year, you are still welcome to attend, if you would like to (you know) sit in and kind of get your mind all ready and prepared for next year. So, if you’re kind of thinking you might want to go to Boise next year, you’re welcome to attend. But, for sure those who are attending, this is the time for parents and students to get your questions answered. And, by that time, we will have the final schedule and we’ll have a lot more information. So, that will be a good time for the question and answer session, okay?
Yeah, so those are the main updates this week. I did want to mention something that’s not on your studio email.
I’ve talked a lot about this recently but, holy smokes, it has been a long, hard year. And, it’s been a very, very hard year for the studio, as a business; and it’s been a struggle.
And, I know that for you guys also, individually, it hasn’t been easy either. I know that we are getting tired of the restrictions and the protocols. And, it’s hard to have lessons online all the time. And, I know also that it’s hard, especially (I know it’s hard for me and so I imagine it’s hard for you guys, as well.) when you’re seeing other studios who are continuing to hold classes in person.
Just know that we as a studio, at Silver Creek Clogging, we have decided to comply with the guidance that our state has issued as best as we can. And, right now, that guidance prohibits indoor dance, even for youth programs.
So, although it is hard for us as a studio business to carry on and to maintain our business in that mode of operation, and we know also that it’s difficult for our dancers who would much rather be in the studio together, dancing together, that is the decision that we have made for the safety and the health – not just of you as our studio community but – for our community as a whole.
And, as much as we can we are… You know, we were able to host our winter showcase outside. We’ve done a practice outside. As much as we can continue to come together in a safe way and maintaining compliance with the guidance that our public health officials have issued for the safety of our community, we will. Definitely. Please know that.
Please also know that we understand that it’s hard and that it’s tiring and that you are definitely on our minds. You are super important to me, personally, and our studio as a whole.
And, thank you for the effort that you make to keep positive, keep dancing, keep moving and to support the health and safety of everyone in our community.
So, that is that, a little impromptu something that is not in your studio email, that I just have been feeling called to share with you.
So, what’s on the studio calendar/upcoming events?
So, please keep all of the following dates on your calendars:
Next Friday, February 5th is our first Friday open studio. So, please keep that on your calendar. More details to come.
Please also, for those interested and participating in competition in Boise, February 6th is a super important day.
1) we will be having our competition prep video conference. We’ll have the final schedule of that to you on Monday next week in your email.
And, 2) for those participating in competition virtually, that’s when we will be taping your events, here at the studio, for those who would like to have them videoed for you. We will we’ll do that here at the studio. So, final schedule of that, also, is coming. So, please, please, please keep that day on your calendar for those things.
Also, February 12th and 13th is competition in Boise. I’m really excited for this. It’s going to be nice to get out and dance. So, enough said about that. I’m just super excited.
March 5th is first Friday in March.
Then, the week of March 22nd is spring break and the studio will be closed for classes during spring break.
We have open studios set the first Fridays of April, May and June. So, just keep those on your calendars.
And then, May. Two super important dates.
1) is may 14th and 15th: Nationals competition in Salt Lake City. So please, for our competitors, keep that on your calendars, all right? I am planning and counting on our competition routines to be Nationals qualifiers, so please keep those dates on your calendar.
Also, super important for everybody at the studio, is the very last Saturday in May, May 29th. That is our summer kickoff recital in Salem at the Historic Grand Theatre, so please remember to keep that on your calendar, too.
So, those are the updates. That’s what’s coming up. Please remember to update your contact information, and address book for Silver Creek Clogging, with our brand-new phone number: 503-874-6458. And, if you feel like it, give it a test run. Shoot us a text or give us a call. Make sure it works. We would love to hear from you on our new line, yeah?!?
I’m super grateful for you guys. Thank you so much for being part of Silver Creek Clogging. You are loved. You are valued. We – I – we really appreciate you.
So, thank you for being part of Silver Creek Clogging and, of course, happy dancing.
Hi. It’s Ruth. I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging dance and movement center, in Silverton, Oregon; it’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This is what’s happening at Silver Creek Clogging, the week of January 18th.
And, right off the bat, I want to say a huge thank you and another thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, to everyone who came together over this past weekend to make our winter showcase a success.
I’m just thrilled that we were able to have our show outside, socially distanced, with everyone watching from their vehicles, dancers spaced six feet apart on the dance floor; it was just really awesome. I kind of feel like crying a little bit right now.
I’m just so grateful to you guys, who put in the effort to come together and celebrate our dancers. It’s been just a hard time and this was a major event and a major milestone for our dancers; just to be able to come together, to be actually able to perform live, in person, the routines that they’ve been working so hard on for the last several months and show their skills off to their family and friends.
So, thank you, again, so much for making it happen for us, for our dancers. Your support for our dancers, your support for the studio, your support for each other, it just really means a lot.
I also want to acknowledge that there were several of our dancers unable to participate in the performance this past weekend. It’s just been a crazy year. Crazy; actually, it’s almost been 12 months since this lockdown roller coaster that we’ve been on.
So, a lot of our dancers who had put in huge efforts, practiced, perfected their routines/their dances, all of their items to showcase for our studio community, they weren’t able to participate.
And, I think that’s hard for someone, who’s put in all of that preparation up front and then becomes unable to show off their skills, show off their hard work, to their family.
We know that there were several of you unable to participate. You were missed. We can’t wait to see you perform your routines in the end of May for our theater recital.
So, you will still have a chance to show off all your stuff. We just really did miss you this past weekend.
I would like to ask a quick favor, for everyone who was able to participate this weekend, if any of your families got a video or a snapshot on their phone that you could share to the studio’s Facebook page, or tag us in, or both; that would be really awesome. It would be great to share those memories with those who were unable to join us. And I was not able to get photos, due to technical difficulties as well as just general running around, so I’d really appreciate it if you would be able to share your memories with all of us on the Facebook.
And, that is pretty much it for this week. I want to tell you what we have on the calendar, that’s coming up.
First of all, this week we’re back to classes, no breaks.
We’re just going to get right at it and we’re going to have a little bit of a fun, post recital mini-celebration; so, that’ll be fun. We’ll be doing that in each of our classes this week; super excited about that.
And then, coming up on Friday, February 5th, that’s our first Friday open studio as per usual. We’ll have more details about how that’s going to work as time gets nearer to that first Friday open studio.
For those of you who are participating in the virtual Boise competition, we are going to schedule a time to take your videos on February 6th, that Saturday, the previous time when our Portland competition was scheduled. So, we’re going to use that day instead, to do videos for the virtual competition. Heads up on that.
The following weekend, February 12th and 13th, that’s Boise. So, for those of you going to Boise in person (the Boise competition), that will be that weekend. Super excited about that.
Let’s see, some other things to make sure that you have on your calendar, coming up:
The week of March 22nd, that’s scheduled for spring break and we’re scheduled to have the studio closed; no classes that week. So just a heads up on that.
Also, please keep on your calendars a couple of key dates in May.
So, May 14th and 15th is nationals competition in Utah. Please keep that on your calendars. With everything going on, of course these days, scheduling can sometimes be a little bit iffy, but right now that is the scheduled date for nationals. And, for those of you who qualify for nationals, we’ll be really excited to participate. It’s gonna be awesome.
Also, please keep on your calendars the very last Saturday in May; it’s May 29th, the very last Saturday. We will be having our spring kickoff performance or I guess it’s a summer kickoff performance, at the Historic Grand in Salem. So, please keep that date on your calendar.
We will perform all the routines that we have been working on the last several months (that we performed on Saturday), as well as one or two additional routines, so it will be a full-on theater recital. Should be awesome.
So, that’s it. That’s what we have to share with you this week. Really excited for our in-class mini celebrations this week. I want to thank you guys, again, for just making our recital this last Saturday happen; for your participation, for all of the cheers (the whoops and hollers) that cheered on our dancers, and encouraged them and celebrated them.
Thank you again so much for your support of me, of our studio, our dancers, of each other. I really appreciate you. Really, really grateful for you. I couldn’t do it without you.
And, before I fall into tears, I’m gonna leave it at that and say… Happy Dancing.
Hey everybody. It’s Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; it’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of January 11th. This is an exciting, exciting week, because this Saturday, January 16th, is our winter showcase recital and I’m super excited. Well, for not the least, because we get to actually have our recital, which is awesome.
So, because of COVID, we do have some protocols. This recital is going to look a little different than we are used to. So, of course in your email, that you got last night, all of the details are there; the full schedule, all the protocols, and everything. But, just to kind of summarize a few of the key points:
One, first and foremost, if you are sick (whether you’re a dancer or an audience member) don’t come, okay? So, if you’re feeling ill at all, please don’t come. And, if you’re a dancer, of course just let us know as soon as you can so that we can plan for that.
Also, masks are going to be required all of the time, okay? So, dancers will have masks on when they’re on stage, when they’re getting ready to dance, all of that. Audience members will wear masks at all times as well. And, yeah, so that’s that.
Also, this year we, instead of just running through our program start to finish at the dress rehearsal we, have scheduled a time for each class; 15 to 20-minute segments for each class, depending on how many numbers they’re doing and so forth. So, your class time is in the email and we’ll review those class times, also, during our classes this week.
But, you will show up at the recital location (which is in your email) at your class’s assigned time.
And, we’ve done our best to have family members, of the same family, have their time slots back-to-back so that they can just come and dance their routines, and parents won’t have to you know keep shuttling every 20 minutes for their family members. So, just know that, that your students should have their time slots back-to-back, if they’re in the same family. If you have a question about the time schedule, just let us know and we will do our best to answer your questions.
Another thing that we’re doing differently, for the performance, is… We’re going to have a canopy, a big tent, that the dancers will dance under and we’ll practice that all through for the dress rehearsal so that we’ve we’re comfortable with how that’s going to go at the dress rehearsal.
And then, during the performance, what we’re going to do is ask that all dancers remain with their families until it’s their turn to dance and then we will have each class perform all of their routines just back-to-back, and that way we’ll minimize interactions between dancers coming and going off stage and all of that.
So, the performance itself will also be just a little different than we’re used to. Usually, we try to mix it up so that we can get a little, you know, variety between numbers. This time you’re going to be able to see it’s a little… It’ll be just a little bit different, so just be aware of that.
For family members who are going to come to watch, what we’re doing is we have a limit on the number of people per family. So, just RSVP to us by Thursday. Please RSVP to us by Thursday. We will have one designated spot per family, where you will park your car. You will watch from your car (your automobile) and/or right in front of your automobile. If you want to bring some chairs, you can sit in front of your car. But, we’re going to have cars kind of staggered, and with space between, so that people can see if they want to view from their car and if they want to sit right in front of their car, so they can hear a little bit better, that will be fine too.
So, we’ll have a seating chart of who sits where and so we’ve got that all mapped out. Please RSVP. If you don’t RSVP, we won’t be able to incorporate you into our seating chart, okay?
I think those are the key points. For all of the details, please check your email from last night; for the time schedule, for when your class is going to attend dress rehearsal, for the time for the performance, all of that. Just please check your emails and then, that is it.
Just one really quick announcement is that, we do have enrollment open right now for brand new dancers. Classes for new students will start next week. So, if you know anyone who you think is tired of the same old kind of dance class and wants to try something new, unique, and different, and be one of the trendsetters (like you), have them sign up for Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM and that start next week.
There you have it. Yeah, those are the announcements from me.
Here we go. We are racing into the new year with our recital. I’m super excited to see everybody dancing this Saturday on stage. Please let me know if you have any questions between now and then.
And, until then, happy dancing.
Hi, it’s Ruth. I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; the Home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
It’s What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging, the week of January 4th. Yeah, Happy New Year! Woohoo!
We are in 2021. I hope you enjoyed a really, amazing holiday with your loved ones.
And, gosh, it feels like we’re only a few days into the new year and things are off to a running start. It’s awesome!
Right off the bat, I have a couple of announcements to share; super important.
First, due to the COVID restrictions that are currently in place here in our county, we are continuing to hold classes online. So, we’ll definitely keep you updated as new information’s released. But, for now, just prepare to continue classes online for the near future.
Second, super, super sad news. I got an email on Friday and it confirmed that competition in Portland has been cancelled for February. So, very sad.
Even so, Boise is still on. So, that’s the second weekend in February. For anyone who is planning to go to that, please let me know.
And, just remember that your competition sign-up forms are due this Thursday, the 7th. You have a link for that in your email.
And we have we have competition entry vouchers for our year-round students (they get competition entry vouchers with tuition), so those vouchers are good for the Portland competition which, as you know, has just been cancelled. So, we’re going to make those vouchers good for any America OnStage competition in 2021. So, there’s tons of options; one is Boise and we will chat about the other options that are coming up this spring, including nationals in May. So, we’ll keep talking about those options and then we can decide which events we’re going to participate in, okay?
So, those are kind of the really important – like just make sure you know: online lessons for the time being and no February Portland competition.
But, we are back to lessons this week, so that’s going to be super fun and we have our top three practicers of the month for December and they are Sydney, Teresa and Amy.
And, those three are going to have their names entered into a prize drawing and one of our classes this week is going to pick from the drawing, to see who’s going to win our practicer of the month prize for December. Yeah? I love that, that’s a super fun time.
So, what’s coming up? What is coming up is, right now this very day, enrollment is open for new student classes. So, we open enrollment for new students to enter three times a year. January is one of those times and we’re accepting new enrollments. We have early bird pricing in effect as of right now and it ends midnight on January 9th. So, you want to get in on the early bird. Just enroll and student new student classes start the week of January 18th.
If you want to try a class before you sign up, a really good way to do that is with our Discover Clogging workshop, so anybody who wants to try it out and then decide if they want to sign up can come to our January 9th, which is a Saturday, Discover Clogging workshop.
We have a few options, depending on age range, so please tell those things to your family and friends; that enrollment on right now, early bird closes the ninth, and anyone who wants to try it out can come to our Discover Clogging introductory workshop/trial class on January 9th.
Those are the things. All the info is online – silvercreekclogging.com; they can figure it out there. So, just let them know.
And then, please keep on your calendar January 16th, Saturday. That is the day for our winter showcase recital and dress rehearsal. And, it’s looking like we are not going to have be able to have an indoor performance; but, please still keep that day on your calendar because we are currently in process of planning to have an outdoor performance.
So, we’re still making all of the final details and planning, so we’re going to have all the information to come very soon; because that’s only in a couple of weeks from now.
But, please keep that day on your calendar; Saturday, January 16th.
Also, please keep on your calendar Friday and Saturday, February 12th and 13th, that’s Boise competition. Although that is not a required competition this year, it is something that it’s available for anyone who wants to participate.
So, please, if you’re going to sign up for the Boise competition, those enrollments are due this Thursday, January 7th. And, again, you can use your competition – your coupon vouchers for the entries to get a couple of free entries to that, okay?
So, those are the announcements that we have to share with you this week.
And, hey, it’s 2021. Yeah, woohoo! I am feeling all kinds of hope and positivity about this year. I know we’re still in the thick of things, but I just have this feeling inside that it’s going to be a really great year. I’m super excited about it. I hope you are too. And, here we go.
Wishes for a 20-20-20 (whatever I said there).
Wishes for a 2021 full of happy dancing.
Hi, it’s Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; it’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This is what’s happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of December 28th.
This is the end of the year and also the beginning of next year. This is the perfect time to reflect on the past and then look ahead to the future. It’s the perfect time for our Dance and Dream Sessions.
Our Dance and Dream sessions: we’ve been holding them annually now for a few years and I look forward to them every year, because this is the time when students get to meet with their instructor one-on-one and look back at what happened in the last year. So, we’ll look back at what happened in 2020. We’ll celebrate with you all of your achievements, and everyone has achieved a ton this year.
We will then look ahead to the next year and what you want to accomplish next year, and will help you make a plan to follow to help you achieve your clogging dreams.
This is when we get to dream without any boundaries. Even if it’s something that you might not think is possible, but you would dream, that you know two or three years down the road, that you would be able to achieve something spectacular; then let’s talk about it and then we can make a plan for this year that can help you on the way to achieving your longer-term dreams.
I love these sessions every year. The link to sign up is in your email. We had sessions yesterday, we’ll have more sessions today, Tuesday the 29th, and then we have some more sessions available on Wednesday. So, if you haven’t already signed up for your Dance and Dream session, please do it. This is great.
It also helps us, as instructors, to know what it is that you are dreaming of so that, if we can help make that happen for you then, we want to do our part to help you reach your dreams.
So, those Dance and Dream sessions are happening (just for today and tomorrow are the last two days), so get your spot if you haven’t already.
I also have an update about competition. I, kind of accidentally, learned that we may not be having Portland competition this year; so, I reached out to America OnStage and they indicated that it doesn’t really look likely. But, they are going to update us with the COVID protocols for Portland and also Boise, hopefully this week, so we can make our plans for those two competitions.
So, for now please keep the first two weekends in February on your calendar. But, just know that Portland is looking not hopeful right now, okay?
I also want to let you know that next Saturday, January 9th, we’re going to be holding an online Discover Clogging workshop. As you know, this is our introductory (or trial) class for brand new, never having been clogging before, students and they can sign up at silvercreekclogging.com/discover if they want to join us.
And, yeah, we love sharing the joy of clogging with others. It’s really amazing how it’s almost universal that the first time somebody steps on the dance floor at Silver Creek Clogging with their clinky shoes, they hear that energetic music, that it just lights them up and they just are hooked after that first session.
So, we want to share this joy of clogging with everyone, because we know how it makes you feel on the inside. So, please share the word with your family and friends.
Coming up on our calendar for this [Friday] is first Friday and we’re doing something just a little bit differently this Friday. It’s New Year’s Day and we’re gonna have an online New Year’s Day celebration clogging workshop.
It’ll be this Friday, January 1st at 12:30 in the afternoon. So, just be aware of that; it’s earlier than we normally do it, so heads up.
Also, please keep Saturday, January 16th on your calendars, for our winter showcase recital. We know there’s a lot up in the air with COVID, but we are still planning on that and we’re making plans now for outdoor contingencies. So, please keep the 16th on your calendar in January and more information on that will come, once we have all the details squared away.
Also, until we hear more details (all the fine details) about the COVID protocols for competition, please keep both Portland (February 6th) and Boise (February 12th and 13th) on your calendars. Although it does look like Portland is unlikely to happen, just keep it on your calendar just in case. And then, we are planning on Boise still, so please keep that on your calendar. As soon as they have the protocols for COVID updated, on their website or via email, they will let us know and we will tell you as soon as possible.
All right, so that’s what’s coming up in the near future. Make sure to get your Dance and Dream session scheduled.
Also, I hope you have just a wonderful New Year celebration. I hope that New Year’s for you is a celebration of the triumphs that you’ve had in 2020 and a celebration of the hopes that you have for 2021.
And, with that, I wish you a Happy New Year and happy dancing!
Hi, it’s Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of December 21st and we are officially on winter break. Yes; this week is our first week of our two-week winter break.
I really hope you guys have just a spectacular holiday with your loved ones. I feel like this holiday season is probably going to be somewhat different than we are used to experiencing. There will be a lot of similarities still and there will also be a lot of differences. Hopefully we can all find the joys (the gifts) that are there for us in all of the similarities and all of the differences, as we go through this holiday. I hope your holiday experience is just an amazing one. So, sending my happy holiday wishes to you and your families.
And, I do have just a couple of reminders to touch base on. They’re somewhat time sensitive. Some of them are happening during the winter break, so I just want to just touch base.
First of all, we’re on a two-week winter break from our regular classes. I think that’s probably the third time I mentioned that already; but there you have it.
Also, next week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (it’s the 28th 29th and 30th) we’re holding our dance and dream sessions. There are quite a few opportunities/slots open on those three days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday), you can choose any time that’s available. The link to the sign up for your dance and dream session, that’s in your email that you got on Monday.
I also want to just remind you that the dance and dream session is free; it’s included in tuition, so it’s not something you have to pay for. It’s a private, one-on-one dreaming and goal setting session with your instructor. This is a really great time to just dream of anything; anything you think you might want to achieve, participate in, accomplish in the next year (2021), we can talk about that and then help you make a plan to realize your dreams in 2021.
It’s also a really great idea, especially for parents of the younger kids, to come participate and we can talk about what’s happening in your child’s dance education, and where they’re headed, review any questions that you might have as we’re going through this goal setting session.
So, that’s it, dance and dream sessions. I hope everybody will sign up for one of those private, one-on-one dance and dream sessions with your instructor for next week.
If, for some reason, you can’t come next week and you would still like to have a dance and dream session please get in touch with us. If there’s any way that we can find another time that works for you we will certainly do our best to do that.
I also want to mention, competition sign-up; the deadline for competition sign-up is on January 7th, Thursday, so just keep that on your calendars. You have the competition sign-up form on your email, so just remember that.
And then, also, next week is New Year’s Day and we are going to have a little bit of a clogging New Year’s Day celebration; ring in the New Year on January 1st; earlier in the afternoon than our normal first Friday sessions, but it’ll be super fun. We’re going to have a little a dance celebration. I’m really excited about it. All the details about time and how to join us are coming for you to you next week, but just keep that on your calendars for Friday, January 1st.
Also, please let your friends and family know that we are hosting an online Discover Clogging workshop; this is our introductory (or trial) class for brand new, never having been clogging before, students and it’s just a really great time to jump and smile and just get really introduced to how amazing clogging is. Links to that are in your email. Please spread the word to your families and friends.
And then, also, I know there’s a lot up in the air right now, but I do want to you to please keep the next three dates on your calendar: Saturday, January 16th, is our winter showcase recital. That’s the first day, please keep that on your calendar; then, in February, the first [Saturday] in February, the 6th, is competition in Portland, it’s a little question whether that’s actually going to happen, so we’ll keep you posted as soon as we have the final word on that, but please for now keep that on your calendars; and then, definitely keep Boise on your calendar for the following weekend, it’s the 12th and the 13th of February, so we can plan to go for that.
That’s what’s coming up in the near future.
I hope you guys remember how grateful I am for you.
I wish you just an amazing, healthy, happy – yeah, healthy and happy holiday with your loved ones and, as per usual, I definitely wish you happy dancing.
Hi, everyone! It’s Ruth and I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon.
This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging, the week of December 14th.
Wow! It feels like December just started a minute ago and now it’s almost Christmas already.
Time is sure flying and this is the last week of classes before we take our two-week winter break. So, this week to kind of just spice things up a little bit, bring a little fun and joy to our lives, we’re going to be wearing our holiday attire to class. It should be fun.
So, you can wear your ugly sweater, your ugly t-shirt, your pretty sweater, your attractive t-shirt, your goofy anything. I have something fun all picked out to wear for classes. It should be really, really fun.
I like just bringing some cheer to our lives. I think that’s really awesome. So, that’s this week.
I want to remind you that competition sign ups are due by Thursday January 7th, it’s a Thursday, the first Thursday in January, and we have competition the first two weekends in February.
The link for the sign up form is in your email, so check for that.
Team Dynamite is required to participate in the Portland competition and for everyone else it’s optional.
I know that there are some of you planning to do solos this year, I think there’s a duet or two, so it should be really fun. Just make sure to get your sign up form in by the 7th.
I also want to say that we are doing our dance and dream sessions again this year. This has been a fun thing that we’ve done every year, and it’s a really great time for each student to meet with their instructor one-on-one; to do some dreaming, to think about what you want to bring into your clogging in the year ahead, and kind of set a plan – set some goals – for how you can realize your intention for clogging next year.
We’ll also take some time to look back on what your goals were for this year and celebrate everything that you achieved, look at maybe what you want to do differently this coming year; maybe nothing – maybe it’s a good chance to just kind of refresh and renew.
So, start thinking about that. Think about what it is that you want to bring to your clogging next year. Do you want to bring more fun? Do you want to move to the next skill level? Do you want to work on perfecting some specific techniques? Think about that and we’ll make a plan together that you can follow for this coming year.
I know that this year has a little bit gone off the rails, so I think it would be good to reflect and on everything that you have accomplished. Because, each and every one of our dancers has really grown a lot this year; I think in some ways significant growth, more than in other years. So, yeah, let’s take some time to reflect, recognize, celebrate and then look ahead to next year, all right?
The sign up sheet for your dance and dream sessions are in your emails. So, go ahead and click on the link, and you can choose from any of the available times, and then we’ll set up student’s dashboard, or their TeacherZone dashboard, with their online lesson link.
Remember, these sessions are free. They don’t cost anything extra. They’re already included in your tuition, so just make sure to sign up for one of your free dance and dream sessions.
These are always a lot of fun. The students who participate in these, every year, just really say how much fun they are and how they really have enjoyed them.
So, get your spot for the last week of December. There are several days and times open and just make sure to get your spot.
So, for what’s coming up at Silver Creek Clogging, on the calendar we have this week, of course, wear your holiday attire to class.
And then the next two weeks after that, the week of December 21st and the week of December 28th, we don’t have any regular classes.
However, the last week of December, into January, we will be doing our dance and dream sessions. So, that’s happening even though we don’t have regular classes.
And then, on New Year’s Day we’re going to be having our first Friday open studio and we’ll do a little bit of a celebration, a New Year’s Day celebration. So, that will really be fun. Just check for that. We’re gonna ring the new year in with a fun New Year celebration, so be prepped for that.
Also, please keep on your calendar and let your friends and family know that on Saturday, January 9th we have a Discover Clogging workshop. This is going to be an online workshop that will be for any student who wants to learn anything about clogging.
So, please share the word. Tell your friends and family this is their chance to discover how amazing clogging is. And, it’s a great trial lesson, because we have classes for new students starting the next week or two after that.
So, this is a really good introduction/trial class so that, before people sign up, they can check it out.
So, let your friends and family know about that, that’s on Saturday, January 9th.
Please also keep on your calendar Saturday, January 16th. I know there’s a lot up in the air, with COVID, these days. But, please keep on your calendar the 16th of January for our winter showcase recital. There you go.
And also, please keep on your calendars Saturday, February 6th for our Portland competition. And then the following weekend, Friday and Saturday the 12th and 13th, in Boise.
So, we have some fun stuff coming up. Lots of fun coming up. But, for this week, I hope you have just a fantastic week and I wish you happy dancing.
Hi! It’s Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging, the week of December 7th.
Yes, it is December and, with the coming of December, I’ve really felt a sense of hopefulness; both within myself and from other people around me. It’s been really amazing to feel that sense of hopefulness. I know that there are still challenges ahead for us but, to feel that sense of hopefulness, in the larger community around me and within myself, has been a boost to my spirit. I hope that you are feeling a sense of hopefulness, too.
Before we get into all of our studio information, updates and announcements, I want to give you a heads up that we are going to be doing an in-depth look at our studio values in the near future.
In case you don’t know, Silver Creek Clogging has a set of studio values. These values guide everything that we do here, at Silver Creek Clogging.
They guide the events and activities that we host and participate in. They guide what we do in classes, our class curriculum. They guide our conduct expectations, of our students and our families. They guide everything that we do here, at Silver Creek Clogging, and one of the really cool things, the things I really like, about these studio values is, that they’re a journey. They’re a journey for our studio, as an entity. They’re a journey for our teams/individual classes. They’re a journey for our individual students. They’re progressive and, at the same time, they’re cyclical; so, they guide what you do as an individual dancer, as well as what we do as a studio. So, they’re just really, really cool. I like them. They’re more of a journey. Principles that we follow, values that guide us.
So, I’m going to give you a little brief introduction to our studio values, just so you kind of have an idea of what’s coming up, but we will save the in-depth look for the future.
So, quick introduction to each of our studio values.
The first value is joy. This is our first value because it truly is the foundation of everything, the common thread that runs through everything, that we do. That joy that you feel in your heart, deep inside of you, that connects you with who you truly are, that is the heart of it all. That’s the foundational value, that’s the seed, that with it grows everything else.
From there, our second value is community. For us here, at Silver Creek Clogging, for you as our students and our families, community starts with each individual and radiates far beyond our studio walls. Each individual dancer carries within them positivity, encouragement, support; not only to themselves but to their teammates, to others in the studio (dancers and family members in our studio community), and then the wider community as a whole.
And, community is so important for a lot of reasons; but, one of the most important reasons why this is a value, that we want to guide us, is because, we truly believe that together we can accomplish great things.
Yeah, we can accomplish much more together than we can as factions or as an individual so, together we can accomplish great things.
Our third value is courage. And courage is what’s deep inside of all of us. It’s that deep, internal strength that helps you to do hard things, and helps you to do things that sometimes are even a little bit scary. And, to develop that courage is so important to us. We want you to develop courage. We want you to feel safe and that you can dare to dream and that you can stretch yourself. So, we have put things into place to foster a studio environment in which you can feel safe to stretch yourself, where you can feel safe to dream, where you can grow your courage muscle; because, dreaming and being courageous is so important. That’s where the possibilities begin; that dreaming and stretching yourself.
Our fourth studio value is challenge and each individual dancer’s challenges are unique. We know there are going to be highs and lows all along the way and that, through the challenges, you as a dancer will grow. Through goal setting, through trying hard things, that’s where the real growth comes.
So, we know that as you achieve your goals, as you take on those challenges, that’s when you will discover what you’re capable of. You’ll do something that you think is so super hard but, you’ll tackle that challenge and you will achieve that goal and you will continue to tackle the next challenge and achieve that next goal and then you’ll be looking back and thinking, “Oh, my gosh. When I very first started clogging, chugs were hard. Now, look what I’m doing! I am doing more than I even could imagine. I am capable of more than I dreamed of.” And, that’s not only for you as a dancer, but for you as a team. As your class/team and as our larger community, as a whole. So, those challenges, goal setting, working on those hard things; that is so, so important.
Our last and final value is growth. So, here, at Silver Creek Clogging, it’s important to us to focus on your growth; not just as a dancer, but in other areas of your life. So, we really want to foster a positive, team-focused, empowering environment; we really want our instructors to provide student-focused coaching and mentoring; and, also, it’s really important to us that we are providing quality dance education. So, that is our definition of growth.
And, with this, joy, and community, courage, challenge – all of that – that journey that you’re on, as a dancer, that is the groundwork; the groundwork is laid for you to grow for a lifetime here, at Silver Creek Clogging.
So, those are our studio values. Again, those are what guide everything that happens at the studio; everything we do here. They guide how our students conduct themselves, and they’re also reflected in how our students conduct themselves, and reflected in what we do here at the studio.
So, those are our studio values and I’m really looking forward to going into a little bit more depth on those values in the coming weeks, to share with you a little bit more about what we stand for, and the values that drive us, and that we follow. So, there we go.
Now, into the information and announcements. We really only have one main announcement and that is the competition entry deadline.
Competition entry deadline is Thursday, January 7th; and that is the competition entry deadline for both Portland (the first weekend in February) and Boise (the second weekend in February). So, we’ve talked a little bit in class, over the last few months, about competition. Individual students and individual teams are working on material for competition. The only class that is required to participate in the Portland competition is Team Dynamite. Everyone else, it’s optional. So, we’ve already we’ve been talking about that in class. We’ll talk a little bit more, specifically, about that in class and then, families, you can kind of discuss that as well.
The sign up form is linked in your email, so please check that to get the sign up form and, of course, let me know if there are any questions. I know that between now and the 7th we have a two-week break from classes so, if you want to turn that in early, please feel free to do that and we will get that in on the 7th.
Also, please know that, if you turn your signup forms in after the 7th, there will be extra fees, the competition entry fees go up in price, as time goes on. So, in order to get the lowest fees, you’ve got to turn those in on the 7th. So, if you don’t turn them in on the 7th (on or before the 7th), there will be additional fees incurred.
On to our calendar and upcoming events. Next week, super fun, we’re going to wear your ugly holiday sweater or t-shirt to class. You can dress up in some holiday fun attire, anything you want, it should be really, really fun. I’m excited to do this, it’s the first year we’ve done it and let’s have fun with it; because, then the next two weeks (the week of the 21st and the 28th) we don’t have any classes. So, let’s live it up, have fun next week, and go out on winter break with a celebration.
Even though we’re closed for two weeks of classes on winter break, first Friday in January is on New Year’s Day; so, we are going to have a New Year’s Day, first Friday workshop. It’ll be earlier in the afternoon and just look for more details on that. Should be fun. Celebrate the new year with clogging.
Let’s see, oh, Saturday, January 9th is our Discover Clogging workshop. This is for brand new, never having been clogging before, students. It’s our introductory class, or our trial class. So, for anyone who wants to try out clogging, please spread the word to your family and friends, and let them know that this is their chance to give clogging a try.
You can share the link that’s in your email, or you can just tell them to go to silvercreekclogging.com/discover, for enrollment and other information.
Also coming up January 16th, it’s a Saturday, please keep this on your calendar. It’s our winter showcase recital. This is where we get to showcase what we’ve been learning this fall. It’s a little more relaxed event and it should be fun. Of course, we will have COVID protocols in place, with limited audience size and so forth, so just be prepared for that. And, the details are coming up soon.
And then, as I mentioned earlier, we have competition in February, the first two weekends in February. So, the first weekend (Saturday, February 6th) is our competition in Portland and then the following weekend (Friday and Saturday, the 12th and 13th of February) is competition in Boise. So, please keep those on your calendar.
And, that’s what’s happening at Silver Creek Clogging, coming up. With that, here is to hopeful dreams and hopeful expectations for the future. And, of course, here is to happy dancing.
Hi, it’s Ruth! I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of November 30th. Actually, tomorrow is December.
I hope you all had a spectacular holiday with your loved ones. I hope you were able to take a pause, take a deep breath and just find yourself the time to become refreshed; when you could reflect and be grateful and come back to life this week just feeling energized and hopeful. That’s what I hope for you guys.
I also want to say that we are returning to classes this week. So, classes this week are all online.
As you’ll remember, a couple of weeks ago the governor had made a two week pause; so, we had planned at that time to continue our classes online. And an update for that is, that with the new information (the latest and greatest), we have decided to continue holding our classes online next week, the week after, potentially until the new year. So, we’ll just see how that goes. As soon as we can get back in the studio, of course we definitely will. But, for the meantime we are going to hold classes online until further notice.
I also want to just remind you guys that since March, when our lives got a little topsy-turvy, our goal here, our priority here at Silver Creek Clogging, has been to keep consistent, weekly classes in a way that maintains our physical health as well as our mental health. And, the feedback we’ve received from you is, that goal is being achieved; that consistency in holding the classes has been really appreciated. For you, although we love having classes in person, the fact that the classes are able to continue, even online, has been just a boost for you guys and maintaining that consistency, and keeping your bodies moving, keeping your mental stimulation, and just lifting you up with joy.
So, that’s gonna continue to be our goal, that’s gonna continue to be our priority, just to keep those dance classes going on a weekly basis in a way that maintains our physical and mental health so that we can keep dancing together for a long, long time.
So, our thought of the week this week (I really like this one.); it seems to be appropriate considering the circumstances. This is a quote by Marilyn Vos Savant and she says,
“Being defeated is only a temporary condition; giving up is what makes it permanent.”
Boy, I’ll tell you what, when things get tough (they’re super tough right now), it can just feel like we want to throw our hands up and just give up, really. But, things are never going to go our way, we’re learning that in 2020 more than any other year; that things don’t always go our way. And, the good thing is that, we get to decide what we do with whatever comes our way. And, we can choose to give up or we can choose to have hope and courage and move forward.
And, I want you guys to know that it’s okay to take a step back; it’s okay to pause, take a deep breath, to cry and be frustrated if you need to, and then to reinvigorate the courage that you have inside you. You do have courage inside of you; reinvigorate it and remember that you can move forward.
Know that you are capable of more than you even know.
Remember to support each other through these tough times and don’t give up.
You’ve got this.
We’ve got this together.
And, yeah, keep going forward.
That’s our thought for the week.
Here’s our studio calendar and upcoming events.
This Friday, first Friday December 4th, we’re gonna have our First Friday open studio. It’s gonna be actually a workshop. We’re gonna learn a holiday routine. We don’t usually get to learn holiday routines, so it’ll be a winter holiday routine. It’ll be kind of an easy intermediate level and you can join from your student dashboard. There will be an all studio event an activity link for Friday at 6:30. So, join us for that.
And then, this Saturday, December 5th, we’re hosting our Discover Clogging workshop. It’ll be online.
And, in case you guys don’t know, we get asked a lot (very regularly) if we have a introductory class or a trial class, or something like that, so that people who have don’t know how awesome clogging is (like we do) can take a trial class. And, Discover Clogging is our trial class.
So, this is the perfect time for your friends and family to come, take this trial class, and discover how amazing clogging is.
If they can’t come this Saturday, then we have another workshop coming up in January. So, just keep an eye out for that.
And, anyone who’s interested can go to silvercreekclogging.com/discover, to find out more information and to sign up. And, once they’re signed up, they’ll get the link to join us online.
The week of December 14th, that’s in two weeks, we’re gonna have a wear your ugly or pretty or fun holiday outfit. If you want to wear a sweatshirt or a t-shirt, or something like that, it would be super fun. You could even put a holiday ribbon in your hair, wear holiday socks, it’ll just be really fun and take us through into our holiday break in a little bit of fun.
Because, the next two weeks after that, the weeks of December 21st and 28thh, we will not be having any classes at all; we’ll be closed for winter break.
But, on New Year’s Day, in the afternoon, we’re gonna have another workshop, a first Friday workshop. It’s not gonna be an evening workshop, we’ll have it earlier in the day. So, keep your eye out for that.
And, then of course, please keep Saturday, January 16th on your calendar. We’re gonna have a winter showcase recital that day. So, just keep that on your on your calendar.
If we’re not able to have it at an event venue, for some reason, don’t worry; we’ve got something up our sleeves to make sure that we will be able to have that holiday performance. So, just remember that, okay. So, please keep that on your calendars.
Then, Saturday, February 6th we’re having our competition in Portland. Please keep that day on your calendars.
And then, also, the following weekend for competition, please keep the Friday and Saturday, the 12th and 13th, on your calendars. That’s for competition in Boise, so we definitely want to keep those days on our calendar.
All right, so that’s what we have on tap. And, yeah, there you have it.
It’s so hard. It’s so hard to go back to online classes, after we’ve been able to be in the studio. I know it’s hard, it’s hard for me, too. I love having you guys in the studio. But, I’m really, really grateful that we get to keep dancing online.
We’ve made a ton of improvements to our audio and video setup since March. We have upgraded our internet service, mic’d our taps, mic’d our sound, mic’d our voice. So, it’s a lot more smooth now, than it was back in March and April. So, I’m really thrilled that we are able to have this new setup, to have our classes online.
Know that I am sending you all of my love, I’m sending you my very best wishes, and I’m sending you my wishes for joy and Happy Dancing.
Hey everyone. It’s Ruth and I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center, in Silverton, Oregon; the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of November 23rd. It’s the week of Thanksgiving. Yay! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
I’m not going to go into all of our regular updates and announcements this week. This week, I just want to focus on a couple of things.
One is, we do not have any classes this week. We’re off for the whole Thanksgiving week and two, just a reminder that next week all of our classes are online.
And, the real thing I want to focus on is, how grateful I am for you guys.
You know, I think this year, maybe more than any other year in the past, I’ve found myself really wanting to, and being drawn to, think about and reflect on things that bring me hope and gratitude and the things for which I am thankful. And, over and over and over, right there near the top of the list is you guys; our studio community.
I know that I say this a lot, but it’s really, really true. We have a very, very special and unique community, different from most dance studio communities, in that you guys are all so super kind and supportive and encouraging to each other and everyone at the studio (me, our other staff).
It’s just a really great community and I really appreciate everything that you guys do to bring joy to each other’s lives, to support each other in what are very difficult times right now.
And, especially our students in classes, it’s been very, very wonderful to see how our students really have come together in this time to encourage each other, build each other up, congratulate each other, celebrate each other, be interested in each other, and just really come together with that positive energy.
I just, again, you guys are so amazing. I’m very grateful for you, in this time especially; when it’s so…
This year has been (I don’t have to tell you, but); this year has been very, very difficult and one of the main bright spots for my year has been you and the joy that I see you bringing to each other and the joy that brings to me.
So, I want to thank you guys, sincerely, for how amazingly special you are and wish you a fantastic Thanksgiving with your loved ones.
That’s it from me. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Dancing!
Hi. It’s Ruth and I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; home of Dance classes that Make Kids Happy™.
This is, What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging, the week of November 16th, and before we get into our usual information and updates I want to make sure that you got two off schedule announcements that came to you via email on Friday, all right.
The first one was about classes this week, through the week after Thanksgiving.
In case you haven’t heard, our Governor has implemented a “pause” to help slow the rapid spread of COVID-19 in our area and, because of that, we’ve decided we’re going to have classes online starting this week all the way through the end of the week after Thanksgiving.
So, here’s the schedule that we have planned: So, this week, which is of course the week of November 16th, all of our classes are going to be online.
Next week, which is the week of Thanksgiving, we already have that week scheduled off, so we’re just gonna keep that scheduled off.
And then, the following week, the week after Thanksgiving, it’s the week that starts with November 30th, we will also hold classes online that entire week.
Students can join their class by signing into their TeacherZone dashboard and they’ll click on the link to join classes from their TeacherZone dashboard.
And, if you have any questions just get in touch with the studio right away. Yeah, that’s it. So, yeah, we’ll hold classes online.
Of course, if there’s any update or anything changes we will be in touch as soon as possible and that’s that.
We also want to make sure that you got the information about our Student Support Program. We’ve been looking to roll this out for a little while. We finally got all the program details finalized and we sent you an email about that on Friday afternoon, as well, so check your email.
But, we do want to let you know that that program is live. There’s two parts to the program.
The first part is donations. We did receive a kind, generous donation from an outside donor and that is what has enabled us to start that program. So, we do have some initial funding in that program.
Ongoing, the program will be kept alive and maintained by donations.
And, then also, the second part of the program, of course, is awards (support for our students) and students can apply for support.
There’s an application, that is linked to your email, so you can get that application there, and then there’s also, on our web page, our Silver Creek Clogging webpage, a way to donate and you can get the link for that in your email as well. So, you can go directly to that page to donate to the program to help continue to support our students.
So, what I do want to say about the program is, that I really hope that you guys will not be shy about supporting each other through this program; both by giving to the program through donations and applying for support through the program. That’s what it’s there for.
It’s my hope that this program will be a way for our community to be able to come together and support each other in times of need.
So please don’t be shy. Please donate. Please apply for support.
And, so long as there continues to be funding, then we’ll be able to keep that program alive and continue to help support each other.
So, of course, let me know if you have any questions on that as well.
And then, here’s on to our info and announcements.
One, the main announcement that we have is recital photos.
So, last Friday was – or last Saturday was supposed to be the last day for your coupon code; but, I did have a couple of people reach out to me and tell me that their coupon code wasn’t working.
When I got in touch with the photographer, I learned that their website had undergone some scheduled maintenance that was automatic and part of that maintenance resulted in some difficulty with the coupon codes.
So, all of the coupon codes have been fixed. They’re ready to go and that trouble is no longer.
So, there’s been an extension. There’s a one-week extension to use your coupon code. So, you have now until this Saturday the 21st to use those coupon codes, all right.
So, make sure to use them if you want your photos and there you have it.
If you have any questions, of course, get in touch.
And, on to the studio calendar and upcoming events.
Next week, remember no classes. We don’t have any classes the week of Thanksgiving. That is that.
And then, Friday, December 4th, that is the first Friday in December, we are going to have a first Friday workshop. It’ll be online and we’ll be learning a holiday routine. Yeah, that’ll be fun.
Since we don’t have a holiday recital, we do our recital usually in January, we haven’t performed a lot of winter holiday dances; so, we’re gonna do one for a workshop. It will be really fun.
More details to come about time and how to join and all of that; so, keep your eye out for that.
Also, I want to let you know, the first Saturday in December, which is the 5th, we’re going to be hosting a Discover Clogging workshop. This is an introductory class. We do get people asking, on occasion, if we have introductory classes or trial classes and this is it.
Our Discover Clogging workshop is our introductory, or trial, class. So, if you’re a beginner and you’ve never been clogging before and you want to discover how amazing clogging is, this is your chance.
We are making plans to hold our December 5th workshop online, virtually; so, just so you know that we’re doing what we can to keep safe.
And then, if you can’t make it on the 5th, we have a workshop scheduled the beginning of January as well. So, spread the word, let people know. Let your family and friends know that this is the time to discover just how amazing clogging is, all right.
We’re gonna do something new this year, the week of December 14th, it’s gonna be wear your ugly holiday sweater or t-shirt to class. And, like I’ve said before, it doesn’t actually have to be ugly; it could just be some holiday festive something. T-shirt or sweater or just something fun, to just cheer us up and get us in the holiday spirit before we take off for winter break, which starts the very next week.
So, the weeks of December 21st and 28th we will not have any classes in the studio; it will be winter break, so we’re going to take off.
But, during winter break we do have New Year’s Day and New Year’s Day this year happens to be first Friday. So, we’ll be having a holiday, New Year’s Day clogging workshop on first Friday. Keep tuned for more information about that.
I think it will be really, really fun to celebrate New Year with clogging. Yeah, let’s do it 2020, it’s gonna be our year. Or sorry, 2021, yeah that’s gonna be the year. Yeah, all right, here we are.
So, let’s see, Saturday, January 16th, please keep that on your calendar. That is the date of our winter showcase recital. It’s an all-day situation, because we have the dress rehearsal in the morning, we have a break for lunch, and then we have our recital in the early evening/late afternoon. So, keep that day on your calendar. I’m really looking forward to having the performance.
And then, we also have competition. Competition is going to be in February. We have the first weekend in February, which is February 6th, a Saturday, that’s our competition in Portland.
And then, the following weekend, which it’ll be Friday, the 12th and Saturday, the 13th, that’ll be in Boise. So, just keep those days on your calendars.
And, I know that, at least I feel like, life is just really hard right now; so unsettled and it feels like it can change on the drop of a hat. And, I’m really, really glad that we have a lot of stuff to look forward to on our clogging calendar; because, it’s just really nice to have some positive things to look forward to.
I’m also really, really glad that we have an amazing studio community. I just feel like these are the kinds of times that it’s nice to have the community that we do; which is a community that lifts each other up, encourages each other, supports each other and brings happiness in when we need it – when there are the times that we need it.
And, I’m just really grateful for you guys, in our studio community, because that’s the kind of community you are.
Thank you so much for being a part of Silver Creek Clogging. Thank you so much for the positive, supportive and happy energy that you bring to me and your fellow students and your fellow instructors, every single week.
I really appreciate you and I wish you happy dancing.
Hey, everybody! Hi. Hey, it’s Ruth and I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids Happy™.
This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging for the week of November 9th.
Boy, is it starting to feel like winter. It’s getting chilly, the days are getting shorter and, with the time change, the night comes sooner. Yeah, it’s just feeling a lot like winter is coming.
So, I’m really, really glad we got to celebrate our studio anniversary on Saturday. I had so much fun celebrating with you guys. Thank you so much for celebrating with me.
I always enjoy getting together with our students; because, we have amazing students and whenever we get together I just get reminded of that. It just gets right to the forefront, what an amazing group we have. You guys are awesome. I really appreciate you and happy anniversary to our Silver Creek Clogging studio home.
Here we go! I do want to share a thought of the week.
I came across this quote by Steve Jobs and I immediately thought of our students. So, here’s what Steve Jobs says,
“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.”
That’s what I want for you guys. I want you to be able to, first of all, have the courage to turn down the volume on all that external noise. It can be really loud and very persistent. But, if you turn down the volume on that external noise, you will be able to hear your heart and your intuition better and be able to hear what they’re telling you better. And then, once you hear that, and you can listen to what you’re telling yourself from inside, then you can act.
Have the courage to act. Do what your heart and your intuition are telling you and be whatever it is that you want to become. That’s what I want for you guys. So, there you go; that’s our thought for the week.
I do have a couple of announcements. Just a kind of reminder, first of all, that recital photos from our September recital – your coupon codes expire this Saturday. Just a few days away.
If you haven’t used your coupon code, and if you want to use your coupon code, then go online (the link is in your email) and use your coupon code to get your free recital photo. If you don’t use your coupon code, you can still buy photos (and of course you can buy the video as well anytime), but your coupon code will be expired by this Saturday. Okay, so just know that.
Also, I want to congratulate our Fantastic Fivers. So far, four of our students have learned all five of the all-around solos in their skill level. So that’s Gwen and Cordelia and Sydney and Abby. Those students learned all five solos in the advanced skill level. They are looking and sounding so great. I’m loving it. They worked hard and there’s still time, if you want to be one of the Fantastic Fivers. You can still do it.
All these students are to have their names on the Fantastic Fivers recognition board in the studio, they’re going to get a pin to recognize their accomplishment so they can remember from year to year what they have achieved, and they’re gonna all get their names put into a hat for a drawing of one free competition entry at our February competition in Portland.
So, we’re gonna draw at the beginning of December. So, at that point everyone who has learned all five solos will have their name in the drawing. So, you can do the work, too. But, in the meantime please join me to congratulate those four students who have really worked hard. They’re doing a fantastic job. So proud of them. So, congratulations you four. Awesome work.
One really quick, just, update; the scholarship program that I talked to you guys about a couple of weeks back, we’re putting all the final touches on that and we’re actually going to be calling it the student support fund. So, all of the details about that are going to come in a separate email later this week. So, look for that, all right? I’m really looking forward to rolling that out. I’m very excited.
Okay, so what’s on the calendar coming up?
So, this Saturday not only do your recital coupon codes expire, but this Saturday is our Discover Clogging workshop. We have a couple of different workshop times depending on age group. So, for students, ages five up into adults, who have never been clogging before, this is a great time to get a trial. This is a trial lesson. Check it out and discover how so fun and lively and amazing clogging is. Yeah, it is. You and I know. It’s a secret that we want to share, so please share with your family and friends and let them know that this is happening this Saturday.
Also, the week of November 23rd, the week of Thanksgiving, no classes that week. Celebrate Thanksgiving at home with your family. Stay safe and then we’ll be back in the studio the next week, which will be first Friday, on the first Friday in December, and we’ll let you know more about what’s coming up first Friday as that day gets closer.
The week of December 12th – no 14th sorry – the week of December 14th we’re gonna do wear your funny, ugly, attractive, whatever holiday get up. So, if you want to wear a sweater, a t-shirt, socks, whatever you want to wear to class in December that week of the 14th. That’ll be a fun way to kind of celebrate the holidays, because the next two weeks we will not have any classes in studio.
So, the last two weeks of December, no classes in the studio. We will, however, on New Year’s Day, January 1st (which is first Friday), we’ll have a first Friday celebration for New Year’s, so keep that on your calendar. Keep look out for the details of that.
And then, remember, into next year – 2021 is coming up really quickly – and on Saturday, January 16th, we will have our winter showcase recital. So, please keep that day on your calendars. That whole day is our recital. In the morning we’ll have our dress rehearsal and then the afternoon recital. So, keep that on your calendar.
And then, in February, those first two weekends in February, we’re gonna have competitions.
So, the weekend of February 6th, that’s the competition in Portland and then the following weekend, that next Friday and Saturday the 12th and 13th, is going to be the competition in Boise.
So, please keep all of those days on your calendars. This is what’s coming up in the next couple of months at Silver Creek Clogging. Lots of fun ahead. Yeah, I’m excited too!
And then, just remember, “Have the courage to follow your heart and your intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.” Yeah, remember what Steve Jobs said on that. Super important.
And, it’s also important to remember, happy dancing!
Hey, everybody! It’s Ruth and I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids Happy™.
This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging for the week of November 2nd. And, whoa! Can you believe that it’s already November? Yeah, me neither. But, it is and here we are, yeah.
But last week, which was still in October, we had a whole lot of fun. We got to see a lot of super fun Halloween costumes in our classes. That’s always really, really fun; to see everybody’s costumes. It’s just a lot of good, happy energy and I really, really always love the Halloween costume week.
And, we also participated in our community trunk-or-treat, which was also a lot of fun. So, yeah, I had tons of fun last week and I hope you did too, and here we are on to November. Yeah.
First, right out of the gate, I just want to say we have rescheduled our anniversary celebration to this Saturday. So, this Saturday, November 7th, okay. We’re gonna have it at the studio and you have all of the details, time and all of that, in your email. And, yeah, so just come to the studio this Saturday to party it up. Yeah?
I want to talk a little bit about our weather contingency. So, in case of inclement weather we will still be at the studio. It’s just, in looking at the forecast, it looks like it may be rainy or potentially a little chilly but, in any case we’ll just move our party inside.
I’ve mapped out a seating chart so that dancers in the same family can be grouped together, sit together, and then we’ll have enough space to spread everybody out around the perimeter of the dance floor and maintain our appropriate physical distance. And so, that should be really fun. We’ll open the doors and the windows, and if we need to crank up the heater we will, but that’s our plan.
We’ll get RSVP’s in classes this week and then we’ll see you on Saturday. Should be a lot of fun. Yeah? Yeah. I think so too. So, I’m super excited about it.
We also have our practicer of the month. So, I just want to remind you that October was the first month we started our new and improved practicer of the month recognition. So, all along this month, erm last month in October, students have been logging into TeacherZone and tracking their practice days and we counted up all the practice days for all the students last month and we have the top three practicers (which are Amy, Sydney and Teresa) and in classes this week we’ll have one of our classes do a drawing from those three and we’ll see who the winner is. Yeah? And we’ll announce that on our social media later this week; so that should be really fun. So, keep an eye out for that. That should be fun. We’ll see who our winner for practicer of the month is for October and they’ll get to choose a prize from the prize box. Should be good.
Also, I do just want to remind you that your coupon code for your free photo from our September recital is expiring on November 14th. That is next Saturday, so not even two weeks away. So, just be sure, if you want to get your photo, you go online and you get it A.S.A.P., okay. All the info is in your email; just one more reminder for you.
And, then, coming up on our studio calendar:
Also Saturday, November 14th, we have our Discover Clogging workshop. This is a workshop that’s for brand new, never having been clogging before, students. We have availability for students ages five all the way up to adult. And, not only do we have this workshop scheduled in November, but we have workshops scheduled in December and January too. I believe December 5th and January 9th, I think. Saturdays in December and January.
So, please spread the word. Tell everybody how much you love clogging and just remind them that they will not get clogging anywhere else. They’re only going to get it at Silver Creek Clogging, so spread the word. There we go.
Also, in November, coming up, is Thanksgiving and the studio will be closed. No classes the entire week of Thanksgiving; so, that’s the week of November 23rd. So, just be ready for that; be prepared for that.
The week of December 14th, we’re gonna do a wear your ugly sweater to class week. That should be really fun. So, you know a lot of people have ugly holiday sweaters and that’s what we’re gonna do. And, we know that sweaters can be a little bit hot when you’re clogging up a storm, so feel free to wear your t-shirt and it doesn’t even have to be ugly. It can be a happy, fun, attractive holiday sweater or t-shirt, or whatever. Should be really fun.
In December, just one more reminder about studio closure, we’re gonna be closed for winter break. No regular classes the weeks of December 21st and 28th. So, just remember that.
And, then, we will have on New Year’s Day, that’s first Friday in January, so we’ll have a first Friday event on New Year’s Day, okay. So, keep an eye out for that. That should be really fun. We can celebrate Happy New Year with clogging, yeah.
And, then January, into next year, 16th, January 16th (it’s a Saturday), that is our winter showcase recital. Please remember that. Be prepared for that. We’re going to be having costumes coming in for that very soon. So, please make sure to have that on your calendar.
Also, please keep on your calendar February 9th, no February 6th, February 6th and then also the following weekend, February 12th and 13th, those are our competition weekends. February 6th will be in Portland and February 12th and 13th will be in Boise, so please keep those dates on your calendar and be prepped for that.
And, lastly, I just want to tell you, this has been (I guess am not telling you anything you don’t know.), but this has been a really difficult year. 2020. Who would have ever thought that we would be facing the challenges that we have and are currently and will probably continue to be facing into next year? Who would have known? Yeah.
I want you guys to know – this is to everyone in our Silver Creek Clogging community; all of the parents of our students, all of the grandparents of our students, our students, aunts and uncles, siblings, everybody out there.
Remember you, yes you, are amazing. You are doing great, fantastic, fabulously and I appreciate you. Yeah, take that. It’s true.
And, happy dancing!
Hey everyone! It’s Ruth, and I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon, the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM, and this is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging for the week of October 26th.
And, yeah; happy Halloween! This is a super fun time of year. We’re gonna have a lot of fun in the studio this week and also some fun out of the studio this week.
But, before we get into all the fun stuff; this time of year is not only fun, but it’s also the time of year when we usually see a lot more colds and flus and things like that. And, because we have COVID-19 this year, that is an additional factor.
So, we have updated our COVID-19 protocols to include an outline of when your student can return to the studio, if they’ve been sick or if they’ve been in contact with somebody who is sick. So, we’re not going to go through all the details here but, you do have that in your email and you can also get that on our website at silvercreekclogging.com/covid-19 (and those are the numbers 19, okay). So, silvercreekclogging.com/covid-19.
So, just to really quickly summarize, first and foremost, if you’re sick don’t come to the studio. Okay? If you have a sore throat, if you have a cough, if you have any of the symptoms that would be similar to cold and flu/allergies, any of that. If you don’t know whether it is, it’s hard to know because there’s a lot of overlap, just don’t come to the studio. Okay.
Remember, we do have virtual class attendance that’s always an option, every single week. So, yeah, you can log into your TeacherZone dashboard and get to your class through your class link there, every week. Okay? That’s the way to go. And, again, you can find all the specific guidelines in your email and also on our website silvercreekclogging.com/COVID-19. Okay?
Please, if you have any questions get in touch with me right away and just know that we know that it’s hard. It’s really hard to join on video, especially when the rest of your class is in the studio and having a great time in the studio. So, we know that it’s a sacrifice, we know that it’s a hardship, and we really, really appreciate you guys; especially for being so honest with us, so far, about your health and for those who have stayed home to have classes virtually. We know that it’s not easy and we really, really appreciate you and your respect for and care for everyone in the studio and the others in your class, specifically.
So, thank you so much for what you do, specifically for our studio community, we really do appreciate it and we know that it’s not an easy time for anyone right now.
So, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Now… fun stuff this week in class. Yeah, Halloween costumes in class. Wear your Halloween costume in class. It’s going to be super fun. I love Halloween costumes in class. It just, I don’t know, it just brings happy energy and it’s fun to see everybody’s costumes.
It would be really great to just make sure that your costumes are not scary and that you can move in them. We don’t want anybody to get, like, tripped up on their costume or anything. So, just make sure you can move in your costume and still dance and not have it be just tripping you, so you fall when you’re clogging. Yeah, that would not be good.
But, it will be super fun to see your costumes. I’m really excited about that.
Then, on Halloween day we are going to be participating in our community trunk-or-treat that’s being hosted by the Silverton Chamber of Commerce. We will be at the First Christian church, right across the street from the studio. So, come see us in their parking lot and we will be handing out some treats. We would love to see you there, from 3:00 to 5:00, and you do have a flyer in your email that shows all of the places where people will be participating in this trunk-or-treat. Should be a good time. Socially distancing, nobody’s getting out of their cars; there’s no walk-ups, it’s just a drive-through trick-or-treat. It should be really fun.
Just one quick reminder is that, your coupon code for your recital photos expires on November 14th, so if you haven’t already gone online to get your recital photos, go do that now. And, just make sure you get those photos and if you want to buy a video just make sure you get that before your code expires. Okay?
So, next Friday is first Friday and we’re changing that. It will be first Saturday at Silver Creek Clogging and we’re gonna have our studio anniversary party. So, please keep your fingers crossed for good weather. But, we do have contingency plans in case it rains. And, just plan on the first Saturday in November, November 7th, for our studio anniversary party rescheduled. It’ll be, you know, midday, around lunchtime. We’ll have lunch and games, and it’ll be fun. So, plan for that.
Also, please plan for Saturday, November 14th. We are hosting a Discover Clogging workshop. It’s for brand new, never having been clogging before, students. And, yeah, it’ll be really great to share our love for clogging with people in the community who are interested in finding out and discovering what clogging is all about.
Please share our link silvercreekclogging.com/discover, so that they can go sign up.
We have a workshop, that workshop, in November. We also have a workshop scheduled in December and another one in January. So, we have workshops, Discover Clogging workshops, all winter long; where people can come and find out about clogging. Super, super fun.
Just a couple of reminders, also coming up, the week of November 23rd, Thanksgiving week, no classes. The studio’s going to be closed for Thanksgiving break.
Also, in December, the weeks of December 21st and December 28th (Is that right? I think so.), the studio will also be closed for winter break. So, those two weeks, of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, that the studio will be closed.
We will have an activity on New Year’s Day in the studio, so just be aware of that. That’s first Friday, so that’ll be fun.
A couple other upcoming dates to keep on your calendar.
January 16th, Saturday, that’s our winter showcase recital. So, please keep that day on your calendars. It’ll be, you know, the same kind of schedule that we usually have; with our dress rehearsal in the morning and then our recital later in the day.
And, then February, the first two weekends in February; please keep that weekend of February 6th on your calendar for competition in Portland and then the following weekend (the weekend of Friday, February 12th and Saturday, February 13th), please keep those days on your calendar for competition in Boise.
So, we have February 6th in Portland and then February 12th and 13th in Boise.
So, just keep those dates on your calendar and we’ll keep you in the loop as deadlines for registration, and other information, as it gets closer. All right! So, again, please review the COVID-19, the new COVID-19 protocols about when to come to class.
We really want everyone to keep happy and healthy, so that we can do all this fun stuff that we have planned for the winter.
Yeah, so we just want our dancers, as many of you who can and want to join in the fun to be able to.
So, that is our wish for you.
So, stay happy, stay healthy, and remember… Happy Dancing!
Hi! It’s Ruth. I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
And, this is, What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging for the week of October 19th.
And, unfortunately, I have a little bit of a sad story to start out with.
Which is, our party this last weekend got rained out. So bummed. And, I know our dancers were bummed, too.
But, don’t worry. We will find another day and another time to celebrate. We’re looking ahead at scheduling our party again in the future, with contingency plans for rain, just so we don’t have to cancel it again; and so, look out ahead for that. That information is going to be coming soon.
So, don’t worry. We will have a chance to celebrate together. Yeah? That’ll be exciting.
Moving on to some happier news.
Last week, I told you I was going to have an exciting announcement for you and I do. I have a really exciting announcement for you.
We, at Silver Creek Clogging, are going to be starting a scholarship program. It’s something that we have wanted to start for quite some time now and, thanks to an unexpected donation, from an outside donor, we are able to do that now.
We took a little time to consider what that gift might provide for our studio community and, in the end, decided that this scholarship program was, because we’ve been wanting to start it for a while, this was a really great chance to start that program.
So, we will be finalizing the program details and rolling them out to you very soon. It’ll include information like what the application process, is if you would like to apply for a scholarship. It’ll include if you’d like to donate to the scholarship fund, to kind of keep that fund alive. So that we can continue to connect with each other and provide for each other in that way, through the scholarship fund.
That’s gonna be a really, really great opportunity, so look for all of that information coming soon and we’ll send that like in its own message, rather than with these weekly updates just so that it doesn’t kind of get your email doesn’t get, uh… Anyway, we’ll send it in its own message. How about that?
Then, remember that your recital photos, your recital video, they are for sale online. Yeah, so you can go online. The link to the website is in your email. Remember that each family, if your dancer participated in the recital at the end of September, your family got a coupon code in the email. So, look for that coupon code. If, for some reason, it didn’t come through, get in touch right away so we can get that to you.
And just remember that the coupon codes expire on November 14th, so make sure, that’s what like three weeks-ish away, so make sure to use that coupon code before it expires, okay?
Yeah, coming up next week… Super excited! Wear your Halloween, your non-scary Halloween, costume to class next week. I already have my costume all picked out and I can’t wait to see yours. I’m super excited and looking forward to that.
Also, next week, is actual Halloween day and we are going to be participating on Saturday, Halloween, in our community trunk-or-treat. We still have a couple of spots available, if a couple people want to help and join us to pass out candy, just (or actually non-food treats)let us know and we’ll give you all the info.
And, let’s see, let’s see, first Friday, November 6th; stay tuned. We will let you know what’s going to be happening on first Friday in November as soon as possible.
And, Saturday, November 14th is our brand new, never having been clogging before, workshop; Discover Clogging. And all of the information is on our website silvercreekclogging.com/discover. And tell your friends tell, your family, anybody who wants to join us for that workshop.
And, actually, we have that workshop on November 14th, we also have a workshop scheduled in December and another one scheduled in January, so we have lots of opportunities for people to come and clomp away and join us for clogging fun.
Yeah, so lots of fun stuff happening at Silver Creek Clogging.
You guys are awesome and I can’t wait for all the good, fun times ahead.
Remember, we will let you know when we’ve rescheduled the anniversary party and, then, we’ll let you know about all of the scholarship program details as soon as those are finalized.
And, until then…
Hi! It’s Ruth and I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center, in Silverton, Oregon. This is the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM and we are here at episode 10 of What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging for the week of October 12th.
Yeah, this is a super exciting week, because this week marks the second anniversary of when we moved into this, here, our very own studio home. Before we moved here, we spent several years renting space in other halls and centers in our community and when we got to have our own space it really has been great. It’s been so wonderful just to be here in our space where we can grow our community, where it feels like our place, and we can be comfortable, and, yeah, it’s been great to be here.
So, let’s celebrate being here, this Saturday, October 17th. All of the information about times will be in your email, so check that. We’ll provide lunch, we’ll have games and, for those who want to stay a little extra, after our event, we’ll do some kind of goof-off dancing; have some fun dancing. So, yeah, just plan on that.
Please let us know if you’re gonna come, so we can make sure we have enough food for you. But, yeah, let’s have fun celebrating, laughing, dancing, playing games, and reminiscing about our adventures at Silver Creek Clogging over the years. It should be really, really fun.
Also, this week, our recital photos and our recital video are ready for you. So, you have the link, for where you can purchase your video or your photos; that’s in your email. And, of course, all dancers who participated in the recital are going to get one free digital download photo, so remember that every family is going to get that.
And one important note is that, every family is just going to get one coupon code for all the dancers in your family. So, if you have more than one dancer; let’s say you have two dancers in your family, then you’re going to get one coupon code that’s good for both photos; one for each dancer. Okay? So, it’s a one-time use code, so make sure you get all the photos you want for your dancers in that one order so that you can use that code. Okay?
Remember also that the video is available for sale there, on that website that you have in your email. The link for that’s in your email. And we got some really great photos. The video is beautiful. Yeah, so you’re gonna want to see those and get the video and the photos of your dancers. So that’s gonna be awesome. Check it out and, of course, look for a separate email with your family’s coupon code. Yeah?
Okay, so, what’s coming up?
We have, of course, this coming [Saturday] is our studio anniversary celebration.
And then, let’s see, the week of Halloween is, wear your non-scary Halloween costume to class. Okay? Yeah, that’s the very last week of the month.
And, also that very last week of the month is Halloween, the 31st, and we are participating in the community trunk-or-treat that our Chamber of Commerce is organizing. So, we have a couple of spots left for people if you want to help decorate, hand out candy, that should really – well, actually we’re not handing out candy, we’re handing out non-food treats, yeah. So, come join us for that, that should be really fun.
Remember, also, that we are not doing Autumnfest on November 7th, so just a reminder to take that off of your calendars.
And also, coming up, on November 14th, that’s a Saturday, we are hosting a Discover Clogging workshop. Yeah, this is our regular Discover Clogging workshop that we schedule periodically throughout the year; which is an introductory session for brand new, never having been clogging before, students, ages five and older. So, please spread the word.
Share the word with your family and friends, that this is their chance to discover all of the amazingness that clogging is. Yeah, so that’s coming up. We’ll keep reminding you and post that on our social media, too. So, plenty of time for people to get signed up for that.
And then Thanksgiving, the week of Thanksgiving, remember we’re not going to have classes at all that entire week, okay. So, Monday through Friday, no classes that entire week. Just make sure to remember that. We’ll remind you again of that, also.
And a kind of really, super exciting announcement that I have, that I’m actually not going to tell you about yet, is that I have some really exciting news to share. So next week we have two announcements and so look forward to hearing the info about that. I’m really excited to share them with you. Keep on the edge of your seats until then. I’m really excited.
Yeah, so those are the announcements. That’s the info we have this week at Silver Creek Clogging.
And thank you so much for being part of Silver Creek Clogging. Literally, we couldn’t be Silver Creek Clogging without you. So, we really appreciate you and we’re grateful for you.
And, I wish you happy dancing.
Hey everybody. It’s Ruth and I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center, home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM, and this is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging for the week of October 5th.
Yeah, it’s October, huh? Yeah, it’s hard to believe. Time sure is rushing past these days. Yeah, it’s going.
So, you know, school’s back in session (that is good news), fall is in the air (that is good news) and we really could feel all that positive energy in the studio last week. It really felt like life was in motion again. You know, we’ve been a little bit halted in our forward movement, it’s felt like, and so it was a really good feeling to just feel like life was going forward. I could really feel it in all of our students, that there was some sense of relief and a lot of happiness and positive energy around that, so that was amazing.
And to go along with all those happy, positive feelings, I want to share a quote with you this week and that is by Kate Spade.
And Kate Spade says, “Be happy, be bright, be you.”
And the reason I wanted to share this with you is, because these days there is lots of pressure to you know do things the right way, to fit in, to meet expectations, to do what other people think you’re supposed to do or what is acceptable in their eyes. And there’s so much pressure to do that, that I find we often lose track of who we are, in all of that pressure to do what everybody else thinks we’re supposed to do.
So, one thing that I know is, that when we feel true joy, and I don’t just mean fun or happy; I mean really that true, deep-down, overwhelming, true happiness that is so strong and so powerful that it feels like it’s just gonna burst out of you, you can’t really even contain it it’s so powerful, that is the joy. And when we feel that inside of us, that’s when we are more connected with and in touch with who we are than at any other time.
So that’s the reason why this quote stuck out to me because, “Be happy, be bright, be you”, that all goes together. That true joy; that bright, happy, deep energy of happiness is actually you.
So, what I want for you is to really feel that joy. When it comes, feel it. Get to a place where you know it, where you can recognize it, and where it can be your guide through all of the times when those pressures come your way. Because, that’s what that feeling is, that true joy inside you, how you’re feeling, that feeling can be your guide when you really connect with it and get to know it on a really familiar way.
So, that is my wish for you; that first, before anything else, you be you. You be your very happy, your very bright, your very magnificent self. Okay? Yeah.
And, we have a few announcements to mention in the studio. No big, earth-shattering things. Just reminders that next Saturday, October 17th, is our studio anniversary. This is the anniversary of when we moved into our brand-new studio home. Yeah, that was two years ago, October 17th. Can you believe it? So awesome. So, we’re gonna celebrate, from 11:30 to 1:30, all the information’s in your email and you will get more detailed information in your email next Monday, as well. So, just keep that on your calendar and plan to celebrate with us. Yeah, we can use a little bit of celebration, so let’s do it.
Also remember that the week of October 25th we’re gonna wear our non-scary Halloween costumes to class. I always think that’s a fun, fun, fun time.
And then for November 7th you can remember to take that off your calendars because, we’re no longer able to attend the Autumnfest. So, just a reminder to take that off your calendar.
And then on October 31st We are going to participate in the community trunk-or-treat that the Chamber of Commerce is hosting. So that should be fun.
And, oh yes, and then a reminder that the week of Thanksgiving we will not be having any classes that entire week. So, just a reminder about that.
And then just, as always, I have so much gratitude for our Silver Creek Clogging families; our students, our parents, everybody who supports our dancers and us as a studio. Thank you so much. I’m really grateful for the really positive, supportive energy and vibe that we’ve been able to create and maintain here, at the studio.
We don’t have a lot of that competitive energy that you can get sometimes and I’m really grateful for you, who contribute to that energy.
So, thank you, so much, for being part of Silver Creek Clogging and, happy dancing.
Hey everybody. It’s Ruth and I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon. Hey and this is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging for the week of September 28th.
And right out of the gate, I want to say, “Wowee!” What an amazing difference it makes to have our performance in the theater. That was a great performance! We weren’t really sure if we were going to be able to have a theater performance and, yeah, there we have it. It was really awesome to just really, I don’t know, it felt like – especially after this year that we’ve had with like unexpected, unexpected, unexpected, unexpected, it just felt like a real gift to be able to have that performance in the theater.
And, I just want to thank everybody who came to celebrate our dancers with us. It felt like a really true celebration. Yes. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
And some really awesome news is that we have that same exact theater already reserved for our recital next spring at the end of May, so that is going to be awesome.
And kind of along the lines of our recital and other things, we have some changes that we’re making in the studio. So, I want to let you know what those changes are. This is, there’s a lot coming up, so you know, settle in, grab your popcorn, whatever, and here we go. We’re going to just get right into it. And of course, your email has all of this information in detail, so I am going to summarize this as best that I can and here we go.
So, we have two recitals every year. One is in mid-January and then another has been at the end of May or the beginning of June every year. So that is not going to change. Yep, we’re still going to do that.
So, here are some of the things that are going to change.
One: Our January recital (that’s a little bit tongue twisty for me), our January recital is going to continue to be held at like the Silverton Community Center or some other similar type of informal venue, okay.
We’ve have been having all of our recitals at the community center up until now, but now we’re just gonna have that January recital, our winter showcase, is gonna be set aside specifically informal. Welcome in the new year in a relaxed way. Our dancers will show off their routines and it’ll be really awesome.
We will be discontinuing the food catering and instead we’ll be having our studio families sign up to bring from a list, we’ll have a list of kind of things to for people to bring, and we’ll have everybody sign up to bring something from the list.
And then, of course, this year due to COVID we will not, we will not be having any refreshments for our January 2021 recital. So, this is for January 2022 that these are the changes that that you can expect.
We will not have any photography, professional photography, at our January recital. So, we are encouraging our studio families to take videos, take photos. We’ll look at getting a step and repeat or another kind of backdrop where you can take photos of your dancers. Informally, it will be really, it’ll be really fun. And, all of these changes are going to enable us to reduce the price of tickets significantly for our that January recital and, don’t worry each family still gets two free tickets but, we’re just going to reduce kind of the cost and make this more of an informal event.
All right, so that’s our January recital.
Then our spring kickoff, the end of the end of May beginning of June, will be our theater recital. We’ll continue to have it either at the
Historic Grand or some other kind of similar theater venue and this will be the recital where our students will show off everything they have learned for the entire year. So, as you know, our studio year runs from the beginning of June to the end of May and we will perform all of, this is like it. This is our big, boom, end of year bash and it’ll be, this it’s going to be our main show.
We will, whenever available, we’ll have concessions available for purchase and we’re not going to have any food catering at this event either.
We will, however, have professional videos and photos at this event and audience members will be prohibited from taking any video or photo during the show and, unfortunately, if we notice that somebody is taking a video or a photo during the show we’ll have to dismiss them from the performance. It’s just too distracting for performers and other audience members and, I noticed it actually at our recital this year and it was actually quite distracting for me I’m not sure how it was for other audience members but, we’re just not going to have it. And you, will be dismissed if we notice that you are taking any photos or videos during the show. So, we will have DVDs or digital download videos available for sale after the event. Of course, a photographer will be there taking portraits of the dancers as well as kind of action shots throughout the recital. So, there will be plenty of opportunities to get photos of your dancer from that formal show and, of course, as usual you will continue to receive one free digital photo of your dancer and you can select from any of the photos that are available to get that. And then, yeah that’s that.
Oh, and ticket prices, you can you can count on ticket prices being pretty much the same as they were this year; maybe a dollar or two more if you purchase in advance. But, you can count on that to be the same. Okay, so that’s our recital.
And I do want to mention that we’ve been looking to make this kind of a change ever since we started Silver Creek Clogging. We have been trying to get into the local high school, here, at their auditorium for three or four years now and we have been unsuccessful and so this year we just said, “You know what, we need to get into a theater,” and we made that decision to get into this theater. Luckily, due to all the COVID things that went on, that worked out and we were able to hold our performance in the theater; but this is this is a change that’s been coming for a long time and I’m thrilled that we’re able to, finally, make that change now.
Another thing that we’re going to change, this is for youth classes advanced or higher levels only. So, if you’re an adult student, this doesn’t apply to you; if you are a youth student at novice, beginning, or intermediate level this also will not apply to you. But, once you become an advanced youth student, we’re gonna make some changes to our curriculum for you.
This is another thing that’s been a long time in the making. We, over the last few years, we’ve kind of been introducing like a second period for some of our more advanced students. They could optionally enroll in a second class and we’ve just been seeing how that’s going, we’ve been evaluating the value to the students for their learning and progress and just seeing how that might work. And what we’ve noticed is, overwhelmingly, the students who have been taking that second class period have grown significantly. And we’ve recently anyway, we’ve all seen it in our Team Dynamite; when they were up on stage in August, at our outdoor performance, and then again it just last weekend where they were knocking it out of the park. Their sounds are clearer than they have ever been before, their knees are higher, their bodies are just moving with more energy, and their turns are sharper, and they’re more synchronized. It’s just been huge for their progress. And so, again this is something that’s been a couple of years in the making, and we just are making this kind of formal now.
It’s not going to change what’s currently happening, where we have two periods, two classes, for our advanced level students. They will still have those two classes, as they do now, it’s just that now we’re formalizing this as a part of our curriculum. So, it’s no longer an optional thing that they can choose. Beginning in January it will be two class periods for advanced, championship and pro level cloggers.
And this is how it’s going to work:
As the advanced students are right now, they’re going to just have two one-hour class periods per week, for two hours a week, yeah. Once they get into championship we’re gonna add 15 minutes on each class period, so it will be two one-hour and 15-minute class periods, for two and a half hours per week. And then once they hit professional, they’ll get two hour and a half class periods, for a total of three hours per week.
And, because of what we’ve already seen in the growth and development of these dancers, I’m really excited for what this is going to mean for our dancers ongoing.
And, so nothing changes about the tuition you’re currently paying. All that we’re doing right now, in January, is just formalizing this for our curriculum, for our studio structure, and for the growth and development of our students. So that is that. In effect you won’t really see any changes, but it’s just something to note and to be prepared for especially for those dancers who are up and coming, yeah.
Another thing that’s been a long time in the making is our instructor certification course. So, when I started Silver Creek Clogging, one of the things that was pretty much a given to me, right off the bat was that, because there aren’t a lot of cloggers and specifically the type of cloggers that we’re training here, at Silver Creek Clogging, in our area, I really knew that we were gonna have to train our own instructors internally. So, luckily Brooklyn came along, and has been a godsend to our studio in so many ways, that gave us a little time to kind of work on this and develop this as our students continued to grow. So now, we’re ready, we’re working on this curriculum, continuing to work on this curriculum and we’ll be ready to open it up for applications for people who want to apply to be accepted into our instructor certification program early next year. Still the details of that are still being worked out, but I do want to let you know that it’s coming, because this is going to be a really great opportunity for those dancers who are current Silver Creek Clogging students who want to check into what it would take to be an instructor here at Silver Creek Clogging.
And we have very high standards and that’s one of the reasons why this program is in development, is because I want to make sure that this is a formal learning program, this is not like just coming to this is not the same as your dance class every week. This is more like school where you’re gonna have some you know workbook at home assignments, some video assignments, there will be some in studio learning, in class learning. But, it’s not all dancing, it’s some brain work and internal kind of working things out and making sure that you have a level of brain knowledge about what you’re doing here as an instructor. So, we’re going to learn something about leadership, class management, choreography, music editing, in addition to actual like in-class instruction. So, those are the kinds of things that were that will be taught; and it’s a really good opportunity for those students who are current Silver Creek Clogging students to learn what it’s going to take to be an instructor here at Silver Creek Clogging. Again, it’s by application only. There will be certain criteria that will need to be met in order to be accepted into the program; such, as a minimum skill level and other things, so just be prepared for that.
And, also, there are going to be requirements that you will need to meet in order to successfully complete the program. So, not only will there be touchstones along the way, there will be kind of a holistic, I guess kind of exam, at the end where you will need to demonstrate that you understand, that you’ve learned something throughout this course. So, it’s a formal learning course. So, just know that, just know that.
And, if you successfully complete the program then you will be given preference when you apply for any teaching position here at Silver Creek Clogging, for which you’re qualified. So, that will be awesome and as soon as the details are finalized we will let you know, including the cost for the course and ,yeah, any of the other details. So, just be aware that that is coming. And I’m really excited about that.
And, again, these last these three things (our recital changes, our curriculum changes for advanced and higher, and this instructor certification program), these changes have been in the works for years, so I’m really excited that we’re finally able to roll them out.
Our last big change that we’re gonna roll out, starting this Thursday, is we’re making changes to our practicer of the month. So, practicer of the month is intended to encourage students to make daily clogging practice part of their routine and so we want to make sure that we’re spreading that encouragement across the studio a little bit wider. Therefore, we’re going to take the top three practicers.
So, whoever has the top three most days practiced within the given month is gonna be in a drawing. Those three people are going to be in a drawing and we will randomly select one of those top three every month. So, what you have to do is you have to log into your TeacherZone, you have to click the practice timer on when you start practicing, and then you need to click the practice timer off when you stop practicing. We will count the number of days that are practiced every month and then we will have the drawing of who’s our top practicer. Okay. Yeah. So, that’s that and we’ll talk about it in classes this week too, so everybody understands.
And then upcoming. Whew! We’re through the changes, now we’re on to what’s coming up.
So, this week, all week long in classes, we are going to wear our red studio t-shirts to class and whatever crazy socks you want to wear. Anything. Anything crazy, fun, happy that you think will be brighten up your day and your day of your classmates, just wear it bring it have fun it will be awesome.
This Friday, October 2nd is our first Friday open studio. This Friday we’re going to do an online workshop with our friends from Junior Cloggers, in Hillsboro, and High Impact Dance, in Lacey, and we’re gonna learn a version of Thriller to get us in the Halloween spirit. Yeah.
Then, guess what, we’re coming up on our studio anniversary. Yeah, two years in our Silver Creek Clogging studio and we’re going to celebrate. So that’s on October 17th and more details to come, but just keep that on your calendars, it’s just a couple weeks away.
The last week of October, October 25th, remember to wear your non-scary Halloween costumes to class. I love the Halloween costume week. It’s so fun.
And then on Halloween day, October 31st, we’re going to participate in our community trunk-or-treat and we still have a couple spaces available for anyone who wants to participate in that. We will be handing out non-food treats at that event and, yeah, that should be fun.
So, something a little bit sad announcement is, we’re not gonna be able to make it to Autumnfest this year. Just too much going on with COVID and we’re just not gonna risk it this year. I’m hopeful that next year we’ll be able to organize a carpool and joint lodging and make that a regular part of our competition calendar.
So, also in November, remember we do not have any classes at all for the entire week of Thanksgiving. So, that week of November 23rd, no classes.
Okay, so there are the changes that are coming and the announcements of what events are happening in the near future.
We have a lot going on here at Silver Creek Clogging and I’m really loving that you are part of it. You guys are really, really important to just the nice and joyful and supportive and energetic feel that we have here in the studio community and we really appreciate you and we couldn’t do it without you.
And we wish you, I wish you, happy dancing.
It’s Ruth and I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon, and this is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging for the week of September 21st.
And super exciting this week, yay, we’ve been waiting for this week since June, is our theater recital. And, if you remember back, clear back to June (which seems quite a long time ago), we were supposed to have a recital in the theater, the first weekend in June that, due to COVID, was postponed. And, here it is, this Saturday! Woohoo!
Before we get into the details and information about that, I do want to share a little thought for the week (inspiration, if you will).
I didn’t include this in your email, but I did post it on the social media and I just want to give you a little update, because the quote of the week for inspiration is by Lynda Barr and she says that,
“Any kind of dancing is better than no dancing at all.”
And, I wanted to share this quote with you because I have heard and I’m sure you have also been told that, “If you’re not this, don’t do this style of dance or that style of dance, you’re not a real dancer.”
“This is the foundation of all dance, or that’s, you know, how you’re going to be a good dancer if you do that style of dance.”
Listen, I’ve been told that. I’m sure you’ve been told that, but I’m going to tell you, “Don’t believe it.”
Now with that said, if you want to be a certain kind of dancer, like, dance on Broadway or something, then there are certain prerequisites to that.
But, if what you’re wanting to do is be a dancer from your soul and joy, and do the kind of dancing that brings you joy, don’t let those things deflate you. Because, I have let those things deflate me.
I have heard you know, “I’m never going to be a real dancer because I didn’t do this style of dance or I didn’t do that style of dance,” and, listen, I’ve tried different styles of dances, different styles of dance; but I always come back to clogging, because clogging is the dance that really speaks to me. It really does get to the very core of who I am. It helps me be more in touch with the core of who I am than any other style of dance that I have ever tried and, believe me even tap dancing, I’ve tried tap dancing and, while I like tap dancing, it doesn’t get to the core of who I am. So, that is why I always come back to clogging.
And don’t let anybody tell you that you are not a real dancer, if you don’t do whatever they say is the correct style of dance.
You do you. You do the style of dance that brings you joy.
There’s one thing that I firmly believe is that joy is, without a doubt, the foundation, the heart, the very core of dance; and it’s with that joy that we really become and know who we are.
And that’s what I want for you – is to become and know who you are and be confident in yourself.
So, do the style of dance that brings you joy.
Do the style of dance that brings you joy.
Okay, now on to the announcements for the week.
Our Recital! So, tickets are on sale now. Online ticket sales do close September 25th, that is Friday, so be sure to get your online tickets by Friday. I will tell you that, any tickets that are purchased at the door, assuming there is space available, are going to be a higher cost than tickets that you purchase online. So, if you want the lowest cost for tickets, if you want your free tickets that are included with your tuition, make sure you do that online. We won’t be doing free tickets or low cost tickets at the door. There will only be tickets for purchase at the door and those will be a higher cost. So, so be sure that you get those.
Also, really know that we are following COVID protocols as best as we possibly can. We are limiting groups, this is per the state guidance, we’re limiting groups to no more than 10 people. So, if you purchase, fifteen tickets we’re gonna break you out into two groups and socially distance you and you will be needing to remain in your assigned, your, I don’t know, seat assignments, I guess, and not kind of go back and forth between groups. So, that is just so you know.
Also, if you want to be sure to sit by somebody make sure that you purchase all of those tickets in one order, because each ticket order is going to be treated as a separate group for purposes of seating, with social distancing. So, you’re going to just purchase, you know, the number of tickets that you want to purchase and then seat assignments will be made and you will get your tickets with your seat assignments a little closer to the show. So, just know that.
The schedule is in your email. The recital’s at the Historic Grand Theatre in Salem and we’re going to have our dress rehearsal and our portraits in the morning. Then, we’ll have a break for a few hours; where you can relax, get some lunch, regroup, and then come back to the theater. Dancers will arrive about 2:30, maybe just a titch before 2:30, and then we’ll open the doors for audience members soon after that.
Make sure that you give yourself enough time to come to the theater, get your tickets scanned, get your seats, and allow all that with the social distancing protocols that will be in place. So, you know we’ve got to have the six feet distance between every group and so one group will enter at a time, you’ll find your seats, all of that. So it’s going to take just a little bit more time than usual to kind of get in the door. So just make sure you allow yourselves enough time to get there in time to get seated before the doors close, because the doors will close 10 minutes before the show starts.
Okay, let’s see, I think that’s it.
There are some additional COVID protocols.
One, everybody’s got to have a mask; dancers/audience members, if you’re five and older you are required to wear a mask the whole time that you’re in the building.
Everybody will go directly to their seats, they’ll stay at their seats for the whole time, unless you are actively using the restroom or actively purchasing concessions, we’re just not going to mill about the theater. Just going to stay in our seats and maintain appropriate physical distance and that is that.
And, at the end, we’re gonna release everybody in a little bit of a staggered way, so that we can also maintain distance.
It’s not what we’re used to and, in some ways, it’s a little bit sad that our interactions are so physically distant. But, it’s what we’re doing to help keep you all safe and healthy and do what we can to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
So, that is the theater recital, this Saturday. Yay! I’m so excited for this! I just can’t wait. It’s gonna be really fun to be in the theater and, yeah, that’s that is that.
More information and announcements.
Please let your friends and family know how much you love dancing with us at Silver Creek Clogging. If there’s one thing I know, is that when you are able to share your love for us, and what a great education you are receiving here, or your child is receiving here, what a wonderful community we have here, that your word is gonna count for awesome things. So, if you know somebody who wants to participate in, and be a member, of a super joyful, supportive, amazing dance studio environment, let them know that this is the place; Silver Creek Clogging, this is the most joyful community around.
And, enrollment is continuing this week.
We are participating in the community trunk-or-treat that’s going to happen on October 31st. So, we would love to have a couple more people, students, participate in decorating and/or handing out non-food treats to the kids in our town this Halloween. I think we all could use a little extra joy this year. So, that will be a fun thing to do.
Also, Autumnfest registration is coming right up, so registration forms will be sent home this week, and this is for solo, well, individual and duet events only, so this would be freestyle, it would be acapella, it would be any of the solos, it would be any duets of the duet categories.
So, I will send those home with students this week.
Normally, what we would do for the Autumnfest is we would, you know, try to do some carpooling together. Kind of head to the Salt Lake City together, have lodging together; this year is just different because of COVID.
So, each dancer will need to find their own way, with their own family, there and hopefully next year we will be cleared to travel a little bit differently; but, for this year, just know that, that you just need to get your own transportation and arrange for your own lodging and then next year it’ll be a little bit different.
Let’s see, what else is coming up?
We have… Oh, next week, next week we’re gonna wear our brand-new red studio t-shirts to class with our crazy socks. It’s going to be so fun.
And, also next week, October 2nd, first Friday, we’re having a Thriller workshop with our friends from Junior Cloggers, in Hillsboro, and High Impact Dance in Lacey, and we’re gonna, yeah, just learn a fun Halloween routine to Thriller; a version of Thriller, that was taught by Andy Howard. It’s going to be fun.
And, let’s see, in October again, the last week of October, we’ll wear our costumes, our non-scary Halloween costumes, to class. I love that!
And then we’ll have our trunk-or-treat that we’ll participate in on the 31st.
And then, we also have Autumnfest, November 7th, the first weekend in November.
And then, the week of Thanksgiving, just a reminder that we don’t have any classes scheduled that week. The whole week we’re off, due to Thanksgiving break.
And that is what’s happening at Silver Creek Clogging.
Remember that you are amazing just the way you are.
And, that’s what I have to say.
And, of course, I wish you happy dancing!
It’s Ruth and I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon and I’m just gonna start right off by saying, “Wow!” Last week was pretty crazy. Yeah, with all the fires and everything that was happening around us.
I’ve been really grateful to hear from most everyone that you guys are safe and healthy. So that’s been really nice to hear from you guys.
I hope that, as we all continue to move forward that, everyone will start feeling a little more settled and a little more at peace. There was a lot of high anxiety there for a while and I know that it’s not all the way over yet. I know that anxiety will linger for some time. But, I do hope, as we continue to move forward, that we will find that sense of peace and kind of calm and settling.
And, I did share with you guys, in your weekly email and on our social media accounts, this kind of quote that I think is really important for us right now. I’m gonna read it to you. Let’s see…
Don’t forget that you’re human
It’s okay to have a meltdown
Just don’t unpack and live there
Cry it out and then refocus on where you’re headed
And, I don’t know who to attribute that to, the author is unknown to me, but it seemed very, very appropriate. Because, I think that a lot of times, when we’re faced in situations like these, we forget to feel. We forget to see what’s inside of us and sometimes we don’t even give ourselves permission. Like we shut all that, all those emotions, down inside of us and I think that it’s important to remember that it’s okay to feel.
And it’s actually really healthy for us to feel, because when we kind of push our feelings aside, or our emotions aside, then sometimes it’s harder to go forward into the future. Because, those unacknowledged or unrecognized emotions are just kind of still in there, sitting in there, waiting to come out and so they kind of hold us back. Because we always know that they’re there.
So, feel your emotions, acknowledge your emotions, and give yourself permission to have a meltdown if you need to, and then, then you can bring your head up and look up and look out at what the future is before you.
So, that’s what I want, too, for our dancers.
So, here we go um on to the information and announcements.
I actually saw the sun this morning, or not necessarily the sun but blue skies and fluffy clouds, That was awesome! Loved it! Gives me hope.
But, as for the smoke, I did want you guys to know that we do have HEPA and UV filters, air filters, in the studio. We got them back in June, when we were all facing COVID, So, they’ve been here, they’ve been operating and, yeah, they’re really helpful. So, I did want you guys to know that.
And, as far as class is concerned, this week, we are going to hold classes – regularly scheduled classes. I know that there are a couple of you guys, like Team Dynamite and then Elsa’s class, we talked about moving those. So, this week those classes will be moved to their new scheduled times and I’ll reach out and confirm with everybody on that.
And, then brand new students! I’m asking you guys to please do us a favor and let everybody know that we’re still accepting new students. Let them know how much you love clogging here. Let them know that you feel safe sending your kids here, with all the COVID protocols, and everything, that that are in place right now. And that you just think we’re amazing.
And just spread the word that we are continuing to accept registrations for new students. That would really be amazing and we would really appreciate that, if you could do that favor for us.
Also, we’re going to try round two of our brand new, red studio t-shirts. So, these will be coming in classes this week and, again, just remember to hang on to these (know where they are) so that you can pull them out for use in performances and events throughout the year.
And, then, our September theater recital, that is just a couple weeks down the road. So, we are still planning on that. All the details are in your email. Ticket sales start tomorrow. Yeah, ticket sales start tomorrow. So, you have information about that as well in your emails.
Every student who participates in the recital is gonna get two free tickets. So, you’ll have a coupon code for that. Please know that, for families who have more than one student dancing in the recital, you get two tickets for each dancer, but you only have one coupon code and that one coupon code is for all of the dancers in your family.
So, make sure – for example, if you have two dancers you gey\t four tickets. So, just make sure that if you want four tickets that you get all of those in the same order, because that coupon code’s only good for one time. Okay?
Also, just, this is in your email as well but, just remember that due to the physical distancing, we are going to group people at appropriate distances. So, we’re going to treat each ticket order as one group and then that group will be seated in an appropriate distance apart from other groups. So, if you want to sit by somebody, then make sure that all the tickets for that somebody and you are in the same order, the same ticket order, and we’ll seat people accordingly.
We will have no more than 10 people maximum in any one group. So, if you do order more than 10 tickets just know we’re going to break you up into more than one group because 10 is the maximum in any one group.
So, we’re not going to be able to take seating requests or do reseating requests, just because of how COVID is, so just know that those are the parameters. And, that’s all outlined in your email.
Also, we’re still hoping to participate in our Halloween community trunk-or-treat. So, this is something that the Chamber of Commerce is organizing and we would really like to participate in that and could use some volunteers to help pass out our non-food treats and help decorate our trunk. So, please let us know, let me know, right away if you can do that and then we could let the chamber know that we can participate in that.
Please keep on your calendars that, of course, we have our recital coming up in a couple of weeks.
And then the week after the recital, the last week of September, we’re gonna do crazy socks and our new red studio t-shirt. So, that should be fun.
October 2nd is our first Friday in October and we’re gonna do a fun, online workshop with our friends from Junior Cloggers in Hillsboro, Oregon and High Impact Dance in Lacey, Washington. We’re going to learn a routine to a version of Thriller. It will be so fun!
And then coming up into October we have our – we’ll wear our Halloween costumes the last week of October for Halloween. That will be super fun! It’s always fun for me to have the costumes come to class.
And then, of course, on Halloween day we will be participating in the community trunk-or-treat.
And we’re still, we still have November 7th, the first weekend in November, for our Autumnfest solo and duet competition in Salt Lake City. We’ll be doing registration information in the next couple of weeks, because that will be due the beginning part of October so, yeah.
That’s what’s on line – it’s on tap, I guess, for us.
And, I just want you guys to know that – goll, if there’s anything that we’ve learned this year, it’s that things can really change quickly. And, right now there’s a lot of uncertainty and we’re all learning good lessons in living in the present moment, I guess, and for our part here at Silver Creek Clogging we, all along this whole – you know since back in March – we have been keeping the dancing going because we just know how important dancing and particularly clogging is.
And to keep this going gives us a sense of normalcy, it gives us a sense of consistency and it gives us something that brings us joy.
And, you know clogging has always been for me, and I have tried other styles of dance, but clogging, there’s just something about clogging that it helps me really connect inside me. It – with who I am – it gives me – helps me relieve stress, it’s good exercise, but really the big thing is that it’s a door into me, who I truly am, it helps me really truly be fully in in myself when I’m when I’m clogging. And that’s what I want for our students as well. And that’s one of the reasons why I want you to feel who you are and feel those emotions, because those emotions are you; they’re part of you, they’re real and I think clogging helps – well clogging does help me really get into myself and acknowledge and know that that’s real and that I’m real inside of me.
So, I hope that for you too.
And I really love you guys. and goll it’s been a really crazy, scary week. And I’m looking forward to getting back in the studio with you. Please get in touch if you have any questions. Let me know you know how you’re doing or just if you want to send a note just to chat, I’d love to hear from you, as always.
And I, of course, wish you happy dancing.
Hey, everybody. Hi!
Hey, it’s Ruth and I am here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon.
Hey, we have some breaking news.
This was not in your emails last night, because this has just come up this morning. You will get an email (you may have already by the time you see this), but today we are going to plan to hold all classes on-line. So, today, Tuesday, September 8th, please plan for your student’s classes to be conducted virtually through our Google Meet platform. I’ll remind you in the TeacherZone chat and in your email, how you can access the link to join your class at your class time. But, with everything that’s going on in our current area, I just want our students to be close to home and close to family just in case of emergency.
So, if needed, we will cancel classes for today so please keep check on your emails and your text messages for any updates about that. But, with the fire situation as it is, we’re just going to kind of play it by ear. But, for now plan for virtual class attendance for all classes today and, yeah, and then we’ll communicate if that changes.
So, in other news. Guess what I am wearing? I am wearing my new, red studio t-shirt. So, these will be passed out in classes this week and next week and ongoing throughout the month as we have new students joining us. Please keep your red studio t-shirt handy because we will be wearing these at our recital at the end of September, the last Saturday in September, and we will wear them periodically throughout the year. So, make sure that you know where your red t-shirt is when you get it and keep it available and handy.
Okay, also we are welcoming new, brand new students starting this week. We will also be welcoming returning students, who may have taken the summer off, back this week and that doesn’t mean that this is the only week that you can return. That just means that starting this week and over the next few weeks we are accepting registrations for new students who would like to begin.
And, just one quick note, although our website only lists our class schedule for beginning and brand-new students who haven’t ever been clogging before, we do have classes for cloggers of all levels. So, however, we like to talk to people and kind of get an idea about where they are with their clogging and make sure that we get to know them so that we’re putting them in the correct class for them. So, anyone who is above a brand new clogging student level, beginning level just contact us and we can chat with you for a bit and make sure we find the right class for you.
So, family members, please, our studio families please tell your friends tell your families that we have classes for all levels of cloggers. So, just because those aren’t on the website doesn’t mean we don’t have them, all right.
Also, just a reminder again I talked a little bit earlier about our recital the last Saturday in September. It’s September, Saturday, September 26th. All of the info is in your email.
Just note a couple of things: one, tickets go on sale next Wednesday, September 16th. Yeah, sometimes that happens when I’m writing emails; is I put the right day of the week, but the wrong date. So, that is the deal. Just remember that and I’ll correct it for you next week, too so, because next week is when tickets go on sale.
And also note that we’re filling up the first show for audience. We only have a maximum that we can have in the theater, we’re going to be social distancing there and seating people apart in groups of no more than 10 people. So, we’re limited on how many people we can fit in that theater.
And just know that right off-hand. So, we’ll fill our first one. We may not end up having the second show, depending. But, if we have a lot of raving fans (which we do, I know), then we will have that second show. Okay.
Also, I want to get your feedback right away on our community trunk-or-treat. We, Silver Creek Clogging, would be thrilled to participate in this community trick-or-treat that’s happening on Halloween from 3:30 to 5:00pm, in downtown Silverton, and we would love our cloggers to participate with us. So, we need to know from you as soon as possible if you can help. Ahead of time with the decorating of our trunk, for the trunk-or-treat, and if you can help handing out our non-candy treats. Okay?
Yeah, so just let me know, please, right away who can participate and what you can do and I would just love it, because I want get us signed up as soon as possible. All right? Yeah, that’s gonna be super fun.
We’ll wear our Halloween costumes maybe we’ll even do a little clogging routine, more on that in just a sec.
All right, so upcoming activity activities and events.
Of course, we have our theater recital the last Saturday in September; September 26th.
And then the week after that, the following week of September 28th, we’re gonna wear our red studio t-shirts to class – along with crazy socks. Yeah, that’ll be really fun and a good fun way to kind of celebrate and relax after our recital.
Also, October 2nd, this is super fun, that is our usual first Friday open studio. We’re going to do something a little different. On October 2nd first Friday, usual time (6:30) we’re gonna have a virtual workshop.
Get ready here it is…. with our friends from Junior Cloggers in Hillsboro, Oregon and High Impact Dance in Lacey Washington. Yeah?
So, I will be teaching us all a routine to Thriller. It’s a different version, not the Michael Jackson version of Thriller, a different version. And, it’s gonna be fun and it’s going to get us into the Halloween spirit and maybe we can even dance it through a couple times during that trunk-or-treat, if you guys want to come. So, that would be super fun.
Also, the week of October 25th, that is the week (Halloween week) we’re gonna wear our non-scary, non-scary Halloween costumes to class. That is always so much fun. I love it. So, be prepared for that.
And then, of course, please keep on your calendars the first weekend in November, November 7th, for Autumnfest; the solo and duet competition in Salt Lake City. We will be participating in that, assuming of course everything is COVID safe. So, yeah.
So that’s it. That’s our update for the week.
Again, please remember today – please plan for classes to be held virtually because, as I mentioned earlier, we want to keep you close to home (in case of emergency) with your family.
And, if something changes we’ll be in touch. Or, of course, if for some reason you can’t make it, just let us know and that’s fine too.
So, yeah, that’s our update.
As usual, you know what, we have… I was reminded recently about what an amazing and unique community we have here at Silver Creek Clogging. And you know what? That’s because of you. That’s because you guys live our studio values. Like, you embody them you.
You exude joy. You are a true community, here, of support. You are you are willing to take internal risks and build and grow your courage, so that then you can take those external challenges. And all of that is what gives you the ability to grow.
And that’s not just our dancers that’s everyone in our entire clogging community, here; parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles.
You guys are amazing.
I say that a lot – that you’re amazing – and I really, I don’t take that lightly.
We have a truly unique community here and I’m, I’m amazed and I’m grateful, over and over and over again. (Oh my gosh, I’m getting a little teary.)
Anyway, just really, I am honestly grateful for you guys, as our community here at Silver Creek Clogging, because truly I mean it when I say how amazing you guys are.
And I really am so grateful.
I love you guys and I wish you happy dancing!
Hey, everybody. Hi. It’s Ruth and I am here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center and we are here for episode 4 of What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging.
So, this week we’re just gonna get right into it, because September… like it’s here and there’s a lot going on in September. So, I just want to make sure we cover it all.
First of all, next week brand new student classes start. Woohoo! I’m super excited. It’s always fun to have new students join and because every time, without fail, as soon as new students start clomping around on the dance floor in their clinky shoes they are hooked. And I’m really excited to watch that happen again just next week.
So, please spread the word to all of your family and friends, anyone you know. Please let them know how much you love dancing with us here at Silver Creek Clogging and let them know that new student classes start next week.
And also, this week only, we are having early bird pricing. So, anyone who enrolls this week, before the end of the day on Saturday, will get early bird pricing. After that you can still enroll, you just don’t get the early bird price.
So you get a discount if you enroll this week, which carries through month to month to month to month as long as you’re here so it’s not just a one-time deal. It’s every month that you get that early bird price. So, make sure to let everybody know.
Also, this Friday, I think it’s the fourth, is it? It is open studio; first Friday open studio for our current students from 6:30 to 8. You can come for some of that, you can come for all of that, you can come right at 6:30, after 6:30, it just doesn’t matter. It’s open for whatever you want. We’re going to be dancing outside. It will be a little bit warm tomorrow, so just make sure you wear appropriate clothes and bring your water bottle and we’ll just be dancing outside on our clog pods. It should be fun.
Our theater recital, holy smokes, it’s coming right up in just a few weeks on Saturday, September 26th, we will be having our recital at the Historic Grand in Salem and tickets are going to go on sale beginning Wednesday, September 15th.
So, a couple of things, we do have a limited audience size due to the COVID gathering restrictions. We’re maxed out at a certain size of audience, so you want to be sure to get your tickets as soon as you can.
However, we will be having two shows. Your email has all the detail about the schedule for the day. We’re gonna start filling up the first show and as soon as the first show is full, then we’ll have anyone else in the audience members of the second show. So that’s how that’s gonna go and we’ll keep you know keep you in the loop on all the details in your emails. So, just be sure to keep track of that, because every dancer gets two tickets to the recital included with their tuition so you want to be sure to check for your coupon codes to get your two free tickets and then also get more tickets for your dancers whole cheering section. Yeah. Should be awesome.
One of the things I do want to mention is, all current students (everybody who’s currently dancing with us) will have a part at the recital. So, just be ready for that and then any new student who starts next week will also be able to participate. So, they’ll have a part in the recital so that should be really awesome.
Dates to keep on your calendar upcoming. Of course, next week new students come. So please make them feel welcome.
Also next week you get your new, brand new, red studio t-shirt. Which I’m super excited about.
And then the last weekend, of course, our theater recital is on September 26th, so remember that.
And then the very following week after that, we will have crazy socks and our brand new red studio t-shirts, yeah, we’ll wear those in the studio.
And then, please keep on your calendar Autumnfest in November; the first weekend in November for our solo and duet competition that will be in Salt Lake City. We’ll have, also, Portland competition will be in February. Boise’s in February and then we’ll have nationals in May. So, just keep those on your calendars. But the closest is November so I want you guys to be ready for that.
And that’s all we have for this week.
There’s just, it’s action-packed stuff coming up I’m super excited about all the fun stuff happening this month of September.
Please, of course, if you have any questions please get in touch.
And I’m so grateful, so grateful, for every single person who is part of Silver Creek Clogging. All the students, all the moms, all the dads, all the siblings, all the aunts and uncles and grandparents. Just so grateful for you guys. You are an amazing and important part of our community and we just really appreciate you and I’m very grateful for you.
So, thank you and..
Hey everybody; hi.
Hey, it’s Ruth and I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon. And, hey, today we are at episode three of What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging. And this is for the week of August 24th.
And, before I get into it, I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, to everyone who responded to our request for feedback about how things are going at the studio (with regards to COVID) and how we might be able to help you and support you going forward as we’re all nagging navigating this super crazy time. I just really appreciate all of your feedback it really means a lot to us. Super helpful.
Actually, very validating, also, because I heard a lot of… The feedback that I got a lot of was, “Everything’s going really great. We feel super comfortable and safe dancing in the studio. We really appreciated the continuity that you provided at the outset of the COVID.” So, all of that really, really amazing to hear.
And one of the reasons it’s amazing to hear is because we have worked so hard to just keep ahead of everything that’s been going on so that we could keep continuity. We didn’t, we haven’t had to take a break for COVID-related reasons and we have been able to, you know, get into the studio and keep it clean and disinfected the whole… since we’ve been able to dance in the studio and it’s just really been… It’s really nice to hear that all of our hard work, all of our efforts, have meant something to you guys. Because that’s why we’re doing it, is to keep you guys happy and dancing, so yeah, and safe while we’re dancing.
And, in fact you know I do want to mention that, of course, we are doing a lot of the things that we’re doing in the studio to be compliant with the federal and state guidance. But, our primary goal is to keep our dancers and our instructors and our whole community happy and healthy. We want to maintain that happy and healthy community of our whole community; not just our student studio community because what we do here in the studio, it filters around to our entire community.
So we’re really grateful to you guys for your commitment in supporting what we’ve been doing. We know that it’s an effort, extra effort, for all of us and we just really appreciate your commitment to the safety and health of our dancers, our instructors, and our entire community as well. So, thank you so, so much.
One thing I do want to mention about the feedback that we got was; we had asked, you know, whether changing our studio class schedule would be helpful (especially for parents with school-aged children now that school’s online) and whether that would be helpful. And we did hear that things are great how they are, no need to change. So, at this point we’re not intending to make changes to the class schedule. If there are any changes it’ll just be one-offs for a particular student or a particular class or something. And if those changes need to be made in the future, we will get in touch with just the students that might be impacted by it. But, at this point all systems go. Loving it.
And, we’re going to keep being diligent in keeping ahead of the information, making sure that we’re continuing to do the right things for the safety and health of our dancers and our instructors and community. So any changes that might occur to the COVID protocol, of course, we will definitely let you know.
So, thank you. Thank you again so much for all of the feedback. Very, very helpful and, again, super validating that all of our hard work is paying off for you guys. Love it.
So, we’ll get right into it all the information, happenings, announcements.
First, I would like to say yay, yay, yay. Congratulations to Teresa. Teresa is our practicer of the month for July. And I’m a little bit behind the schedule of announcing it, but I’m announcing it nonetheless. Teresa is always a super consistent practicer and well-deserved, Teresa.
For those of you who don’t know about our practicer of the month, I just want to explain a little bit that, in our TeacherZone system (for the student portal), every student has a practice timer. So when they log into their dashboard they can… When they start practicing; they’ll log into their TeacherZone dashboard; they’ll hit start on the practice timer; they’ll practice, practice, practice, practice; and then when they’re done practicing they will hit stop on the practice timer. And that’s how we’re tracking the number of days within a given month that a student practices.
So, whoever, whichever student tracks you know (by the TeacherZone reporting system) has practiced the most number of days in the month, that student is our practicer of the month.
So, right now what we’re doing is, we’re tracking days practiced because the very first thing of practice – is to make it a regular part of your daily routine. So, that’s what we’re doing. Just trying to help our students support our students through this practice timer contest, I guess, yeah help support you guys in making practice a regular part of your daily schedule. And then, once it’s a regular part of your daily schedule, then all of the other stuff can come. Like, we’ll talk in class about practice tips and quality of practice and all of that stuff. But, first thing is the habit; getting it part of your routine.
So, congratulations to Teresa for being our practicer of the month for July. Yay.
Next, I do want to mention, we do have our Fantastic Fivers recognition. So, we started this last year and this recognition is for all of the students who, in the studio, who have learned all five all-around solos in their skill level.
So, it’s actually a pretty amazing thing for people to do. It takes effort outside of class and goal setting; you know, checking them off one at a time, getting all the details right (because there’s a lot of detail in the all-around solos for the competition) and, yeah, so we know that it’s an extra effort for the students and we want to recognize them for that extra effort, so we started our Fantastic Fivers recognition.
This year we’re adding to that recognition. So, usually… last year students got their name posted on the Fantastic Fivers board, they also get a pin – a button – with their Fantastic Fiver recognition, and this year, oh, and a Facebook post about recognizing them. So that’s a good, that’s a fun thing too.
And then, this year what we’re doing is, everyone who learns all five all-around solos in their skill level will have their name put into the hat for a drawing. And we will draw one name from out of everyone who learned all five solos and that person will get one free competition registration to – entry to – the Portland competition in February.
Yeah so, you got to just learn them by, like, the middle of December is, when our registration deadline comes. So you just got to make sure that you learn them before then. Yeah, so that’s the deal. Super awesome.
Some students are almost done, so that’s exciting. And it is actually really a worthy achievement worth celebrating. So, we are going to celebrate those students who do that.
Upcoming, I just want to make sure that you know to keep the following dates on your calendar:
September 4th, coming right up, is our first Friday open studio. That’ll be here, at the studio, outside. We won’t be having inside open studio for a little while. So, of course weather dependent, we will be dancing outside for open studio first Friday in September; September 4th.
And then, the very following week, we will have… our brand new red studio t-shirts will arrive in classes, in studio. And, also that same week we will have brand new students arriving in studio. Yeah, so that’s super exciting.
The last Saturday of September, September 26th, we’ll have our theater recital. This is the recital that was postponed from the beginning of June.
And, the week of September 28th (so that very next week right after that theater recital) is crazy socks and red studio t-shirt. Yeah, we’ll wear crazy socks and a red studio t-shirt to class. It’ll be super fun.
And then, please keep on your calendars the first weekend in November. For November 7th, that’s Autumnfest, it’s the solo and duet competition in Salt Lake City; of course, COVID dependent. But, please keep that on your calendar. And we’re planning on solos, everybody who’s learned all five solos, showing them off at that Autumnfest. It’s a really great chance to just get a first run at those solos, too, and then continue to perfect from there.
So, looking forward to those things coming up.
Also, we would please like to ask you, our very wonderful studio families whom we love so much. We know that you love us too. And we are asking that you please share your love for us with your friends and family. Let your friends and family know how much you love dancing at Silver Creek Clogging. Let them know that registration is currently open, new students start that week of September 7th, and, yeah, we just would really ask you guys to spread the love.
Share your experiences with your family and friends about how much you love dancing with Silver Creek Clogging. It would really mean a lot to us. And, thank you so much for doing that. We really appreciate it.
It is, it really does mean a lot for us that you guys love us and that you tell your friends and family how much you love us. So, thank you for doing that, we really appreciate that.
And then, you know what, just thank you. Thank you for being part of Silver Creek Clogging. We just love you guys. We think you’re awesome. We cannot tell you enough how much we appreciate you and how much you mean to us and how much we just really love having you as part of our studio community. And, yeah, so that’s our update for the week.
And, we love you and until we chat again remember… happy dancing.
Hey everybody. Hi! Hey, it’s Ruth and I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon. Hey and this is our weekly What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging. And, I decided maybe I should start calling this Ruth’s Ramblings because I, I tend to kind of ramble a little bit. But anyway, it’s weekly happenings, what’s going on at Silver Creek Clogging.
And the first thing I want to say is yesterday, (oh my gosh), yesterday was so much fun. We had our summer outdoor recital on stage. Super thanks to the Oregon Crafters market for the use of their stage and facilities. It was so amazing to have that experience together, with our dancers and our studio families. It was really great. And even though we were missing a few dancers, we were really glad it was… For me, it just warmed my heart to see all our dancers on stage. It’s been way too long since we’ve had an actual stage performance with costumes and boy it was really awesome.
A couple of highlights for me were seeing our brave solo dancers who did routines all by themselves. Super proud of the youngsters that just fully rocked it on stage. So fun to watch them. They, even though we had masks on and we couldn’t see smiles, we definitely could see some good energy in their body language.
Of course, it was fun for me, in specific, because I got to dance with one of our adult students. And, it’s just kind of different when you are a part of a team. And it was really nice to be, yeah, to be part of a team, because I don’t usually get to dance with our students and it’s, it’s really fun for me when I do. So that was awesome.
Also, our most advanced youth dancers, Team Blaze and Team Dynamite; oh my gosh they are awesome. They were just synchronized, so much power in their steps, so much power in their movements. Boy, it was really, really fun to watch those ladies dance. Yeah, they were they were great.
It was great to see how many families came to just cheer our dancers. It really it makes a performance when you can see some warm and friendly faces out in the audience; people you know, who are there to cheer you on ahead of time and to congratulate you after your routines are over.
It’s just… Thank you. Thank you so much for coming to support our dancers and it’s really awesome. It means the world to us.
And one thing I almost forgot to say was backstage. So, we had a lots of COVID protocols last night. And thank you so much to everyone for just really just being careful and respecting each other and helping us have a really great time to do what we were there for, which is to celebrate the, celebrate our dancers. But, anyway I’m getting off track. See, rambling.
And, one of the things COVID didn’t get to take away from us was our backstage experience. You know, there’s just something special about being backstage with the performers. There’s just, you know, it’s just thrilling. There’s a lot of jitters; there’s a lot of excitement; there’s all that energy that comes with, before you dance; and all the energy that comes after you dance; and all the you know flurry, flurry, flurry of costume changes; and the excited chatter; and the team, the team feeling; and it’s just really, really fun to be backstage; and it was fun to be backstage last night, too. I really enjoyed that.
Thank you again, so much, everyone who came to celebrate and congratulate our dancers. They’ve… It’s been a really interesting year. And, I think it was… I felt like it was a really great, great time to get together and just take time to, to give them the congratulations and celebration that they deserve. So, thank you so much again for coming.
I also want to just remind you guys that we’re going to change we… This is a change to the way that we are communicating with you. So, as per usual, you’re gonna get a weekly email. Except that we’re gonna be sure to send it out every Monday evening, right around the same time so you can really count on when it’s going to come to your inbox. In addition, you’re going to get a video update. You’re going to get a podcast update. If you go to the email that you got 8:00pm Monday night (which was last night), you will see links to our social media accounts, where you’ll be able to see the video. You’ll also be able to see a link to where you can subscribe to the podcast, where the audio for our weekly updates are gonna be residing and so that’ll be great.
I think what I would recommend (which is one thing that’s really super easy), subscribe to the podcast. You can listen to that, 10 – 15 minutes, while you’re driving to and from the store and get pretty much all the information you’re gonna need. And then for any specific information that is for members only, then we’ll tell you for sure to go back to your email so you can refer to that information there. Such as, the link to subscribe to the podcast, the links to all our social media accounts where the video will be posted. So anyway, that’s that.
And then I do want to mention that, last week we sent out an email asking you for your feedback. We would love to hear from you about, boy this has been a crazy year and we’ve been working hard to keep our dancers dancing when we weren’t able to have classes in studio and then we’ve been working hard to keep things safe for our dancers now that we’re back in the studio. And we would really love to hear from you how you feel things have gone for you and your dancer. Specifically, now that we’re back in the studio. Do you feel safe sending your dancer here? Is there something that we could do to, you know, help improve what we’re doing? We would love to hear any feedback that you have, so that we can consider that and whether it’s something that we need to follow up on to incorporate into our processes. We would really appreciate that.
Another thing we would really appreciate is hearing from you, if there’s anything that we could do to help you during the crazy months that are going to come ahead. Especially for school starting, we have parents in our classes with school age kids and we have school age kids in our classes and would really be nice to know if there’s something that we could do to help you and support you in the crazy times that are going to be ahead. Some kind of ideas that I’ve been bouncing around in my mind are, potentially changing class times to daytime classes so that if that’s easier for you. Maybe we want to just keep the class times; maybe it’s easier for you just to have the class times that you have and this is scheduled it’s set, you don’t have to worry about it and then you can figure out all the other scheduling that goes… that’s kind of up in the air. So just a couple of things. Would it be helpful to open our studio sometimes during the day for our school age kids who maybe need to get out of the house for study? You know, of course, social distancing; use the internet here; bring your tablets or your laptops or whatever to do a little bit studying but maybe be in the vicinity of other… your, you know, your teammates, your classmates other, dancers at the studio. Or maybe those things aren’t helpful at all. Maybe there would be something else that we can consider doing for our studio family families and we would just really love to hear if there’s anything you can think of that we could do to help you and support you during the crazy times that are ahead. So, let us know if you haven’t already, we would really love to hear from you.
And then a couple of things just to keep on your calendar. This Saturday, August 22nd, we have a Discover Clogging workshop that’s for brand new students. So, if you know anyone who’s interested in discovering how amazing things are here at Silver Creek Clogging, spread the word.
And then, also, we have enrollment going on for brand new students. So that August 22nd workshop is a really great time to check it out, to just get an introduction to the amazingness of clogging and then you can enroll for classes that are going to start the week of Labor Day. So that’s that. Send people to those links, to our website, silvercreeklogging.com if they want to check that out.
We’d love more families just like you, here at Silver Creek Clogging, because we love our studio families and we would just, it would be amazing if we had a million families just like the ones we have now. So, spread the word and keep our community growing.
Also, Friday, September 4th, first Friday in September, we’re gonna have open studio. Of course, weather depending. We’ll dance outside.
And then that week of September 7th, the week that brand new students start, we get our new red studio t-shirts. Woohoo!
And we have still on the calendar, the last Saturday in September, is our theater recital and we will fill you in on all the details in your email coming up.
And then, of course, the week after our theater recital, the very last week of September into October, we’re gonna wear crazy socks and our red studio t-shirts to just celebrate and be goofy after our theater recital. It’s gonna be awesome.
And, just a heads up, anyone who starts that first week in September, the September 7th, I expect they will have a role in our recital; a routine to do in our studio recital at the end of September. So, keep that on your mind.
And, then you know just this last little while (I think I’ve said this before), I have just been realizing that our most advanced dancers are on the verge of being, like seriously, the most advanced dancers in our whole state. So, I’m sure you guys noticed that at our recital last night. They, they’re looking good. And I’m super excited about our brand new up and coming dancers who are, like, right on their heels. So awesome. And I just know that as they keep doing what they’re doing, and keep working hard, keep celebrating all their hard work, that they’re gonna… they’re, they’re gonna be the ones to beat. And, I’m really excited that they are going to be the trendsetters in our area. So, that’s really awesome.
So, thank you. Thank you again. This is your weekly update, What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging, Ruth’s Ramblings.
Thanks, so much, for being part of Silver Creek Clogging. We love our studio families so much. We just appreciate how much you support your dancers and us. And, again, if there’s something specific that you can think of that we can do to support you, especially right now during this super crazy time, we would really love to know it. So, please provide your feedback, some information for us, that will help us make some decisions. And, yeah.
We love you and, of course, we wish you happy dancing.
Hey, everybody! Hey, it’s Ruth and I’m here at our Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon, where we teach the happiest dance classes around.
And this is, as you will see, a video. Our… we have been working really hard to improve our communication with our families and this is another way that we are working to keep connected and keep in communication with you, because we love you and we want to make sure that you feel connected with what’s happening in the studio, with us here, and we are connected with you and that we are keeping the communication open.
So you’ll see that we have our weekly emails, those are going to be, now starting this week, scheduled to go out every Monday night. And then we’ll follow it up with this video update pretty much saying the same things and then we’ll post an audio update to our podcast. So this is just some other ways that we’re working hard to connect, keep connected and in communication with you, our studio families, whom we just think are amazing.
So just, we’ll just get right to it then.
So what’s happening upcoming is, next Monday… Woohoo! Yay! Next Monday, the 17th of August is our outdoor summer recital. And, as you know, we don’t usually have a summer recital. Usually we are doing parades and festivals and things in the summer. But, this year, our… all those things are off, as you know, and our theater recital that was at the end of June, unfortunately, or at the beginning of June, was unfortunately unable to happen. So, we have this opportunity to perform so we can see all of our dancers on stage. I’m super excited to see all of our dancers on stage and show off everything they’ve been working on since January. Yeah. So, it’s going to be really great. Look for all the details about time, address/location, other updates in your email.
Just to kind of summarize a couple of things, dancers are going to need to make sure they have all their costumes, all their accessories; you know hair accessories, anything. Some have wristbands, I think, and hand mitts. But just make sure you have all of your accessories, all your costumes, and try them on make sure they’re in good repair. And yeah, that’s that.
Also, please make sure that you review the email for RSVP instructions, because we do have limited seating available. You know, with COVID requirements right now, the state has limited the gathering density, so we have limited seating available. If you haven’t already RSVP’d with your dancer’s cheering section, then please send us an email right away; because, we do have limited space available in the audience seating area. So, the people who RSVP the soonest are the ones who have the highest likelihood of getting a seat for everyone in their dancer’s cheering section. And we sure don’t want anybody to be left out, but… So, we’re hopeful that we’ll end up having enough space for everyone. But, just make sure you RSVP via email right away, just in case we do have to say that, you know limit some, some attendance. So, just make sure. That’s super important.
Also, please read and make sure that you’re familiar with all of the COVID protocol that we’re putting into place for the event. We know that a lot of times, COVID protocols are a bummer. But, even so, our goal, our intention here at Silver Creek Clogging, is to come together at this event to really celebrate our dancers and to make sure that we are all safe and healthy and just ensure that we can continue being happy and healthy and dancing and celebrating our dancers for a long time. So that’s our intention.
Please make yourself familiar with the protocols. Please RSVP if you intend to have audience for your dancer’s cheering section and, of course, email if you have any questions. You all have my email, so email me if you have any questions. Check the email that you got in your inbox last night, for all of the nitty-gritty details. Yeah?
A couple other things just to keep on your calendar.
One; Friday, September 4th is our usual first Friday open studio. So keep that, that is our exclusively for Silver Creek Clogging students and one of your member benefits.
And then, also the week of September 7th is some super, super fun. Our new, brand new, voted red, popular demand, vote of red, t-shirts will be in studio and we’ll pass around for all the students.
And then, Saturday, September 26th. Please keep that on your calendar. That’s when we actually have our theater recital scheduled. So that’s our recital that was previously scheduled for the first weekend in June; just got postponed to the last weekend in September. So, that’s September 26th. Please keep that on your calendars and we will be in touch with all the details.
And then, the next week, the following week, the week of September 28th, we are going to celebrate by wearing our crazy socks and our brand new red studio t-shirts to class. So, that’s going to be super fun.
And then, I want to make sure that you know that we are currently open enrollment for brand new clogging students. So, please share the word with all of your friends, your family, anyone who you think, or has expressed interest, in clogging. Now is the time, because as you know we only have open enrollment for three times every year. So, this is one of those times that we open enrollment for brand new beginning students and our classes start that first week of September; the week of September 7th, for brand new students. So, enrollment is on. Share the word.
And anyone who wants to have a introductory class, we do have an introductory class scheduled for Saturday, August 22nd (excuse me), that is our Discover Clogging workshop for brand new, never been clogging before, students. And it’s a really great time to experience the real joy that is clogging. Like, seriously, clogging is very unique in its energy. The energy that just fills you up, the sounds that your feet make, the real like, I don’t know… demonstrative way that your body moves with clogging. It’s just, ooh, it just gets me all lit up inside and I know it gets our students lit up inside too and everyone who watches can’t help but be happy when you’re, when you’re watching a clogger’s dance.
So that is it and it’s really exciting because, right now, you know here at Silver Creek Clogging, we have introduced a completely new style of dance to this area. Really, we are the only clogging dance studio for miles around and our students, some of our top students, the most advanced students are on the cusp of really, some super exciting things. They’re actually starting to do some really super exciting things now (toe stands and pullbacks) and it’s just really fun to watch them grow.
And I’m going to tell you what, this is my… this is what my prediction, and my confidence that I have in our students, is. That very soon, our students here at Silver Creek Clogging will be the most advanced students in the state of Oregon. The whole state of Oregon. They keep at it, they work hard, they keep moving on… Yeah, they’re rocking it. And it’s a movement that we’re starting here. It’s something that you will not find anywhere else in the area and our students are set to be leading the pack here, in the state of Oregon and I’m really excited. And I can’t wait for this movement to grow with you. So, if you’re ready to get on this new clogging movement and discover what we say when we teach dance classes…
What we mean when we say we teach Dance Classes That Make kids HappyTM‚ that’s really, really true. Clogging is uniquely joyful and happy form of dancing and we look forward to having everybody join us.
So, tell your friends and your family and look out for our very own students to be leading the pack before you know it.
And we’ll keep these communications going. We’ll give you the information how you can subscribe to our podcast as soon as possible and until then, remember…
