Hi. It’s What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of May 17th.
I’m Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance and Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon; it’s the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM.
And, why are we the home of Dance Classes that Make Kids HappyTM? Well, one of the reasons is because we are focusing on growing the whole dancer. We are teaching our students the skills to excel in clogging and in life.
And, one of the ways that we do that is through our class chats. Each month, we have a focus of the month where we talk about how our students can tap into their excellence. And, this month our focus is on responsibility.
Last week we talked a little bit about failure. And, one of the reasons this is important is because everything does not always go as we would hope or as we would expect. So, it’s important to understand how to take responsibility, from that point of disappointment or failure and go forward/move forward in a positive way. So, that’s what we discussed.
We asked our students to think about a time when things didn’t go exactly as they had planned, and then either talk about what they did to address that (as a new start/as a learning and a growing experience, for forward movement) or maybe how they could have done something differently to help them see that as a jumping off point to a new learning or a new growth experience.
So, we’re gonna discuss whining and how whining is kind of not taking responsibility in some way and, then, so that’s what we’re going to talk about this week.
And, at home what you can do is help your student become ready to be responsible for taking on larger tasks or larger projects over time. So, if you will give your student some practice by giving them a small task or a small goal that they can work on over the next week (we’ve given you some examples of what that would look like, in your email) and give your students some practice at being responsible. So, yeah, have fun with that.
I’m really enjoying these class chats. It’s actually helping me think about things differently as I internalize and, really, be prepared to help our students learn and grow in this really important way, on a consistent and ongoing basis. So, that’s our class chats.
This week in the studio. You may be able to see that my hair is a little bit crazy today. That’s because this week is crazy hair week and wear your studio t-shirt week, okay? Yeah, have fun. Get your hair all crazy and wear your studio t-shirt. Looking forward to having some goofy times in class with you all this week.
Our COVID update is… You may have heard that there are new mask guidelines from the CDC and our governor. At this point, we, as a business, don’t have specific guidance on what that looks like for our students. So, until we get further guidance, we are maintaining our current standard of mask wearing, to comply with the guidance that’s currently in place.
So, nothing new at the studio this week, so far as mask wearing goes. We will definitely keep you informed as we have more guidance from the governor on what businesses should do to comply, specific to our industry for dance studios in the fitness category.
Guess what? Recital… our recital is next week. Can you believe it? Next Saturday is our all-studio summer kickoff recital.
First, this week (in actually just a couple of days), tickets are going to go on sale. Due to COVID restrictions, audience size is very limited. So, please, if you want tickets, you’re gonna have to get them.
It’s a first come, first served basis. We aren’t holding tickets for anyone. We aren’t holding seats for anyone; including the complimentary tickets that you get with your tuition, those are on a first-come first-served basis. So, get in there, get your tickets.
You’re going to get your coupon codes today or tomorrow. So, look for those coupon codes in your email and, as soon as you can, just get your tickets; because, as soon as the space fills up, for the capacity that we’re allowed with the current COVID guidelines, that’s when ticket sales stop, okay?
Check out more information in your email; but, that is the main thing that I want to be sure you guys are aware of; is that tickets go on sale on the 20th, and we have maximum capacity that we’re allowed for COVID restrictions, and once that capacity is reached ticket sales will be done, and if you haven’t got your tickets (including your complimentary tickets) then that will be a big sad bummer, okay? All right, please let us know if you have any questions about that.
I’m excited for the recital this next week. Woohoo!
Okay, so what else is on the calendar? So, of course this week: crazy hair week, studio t-shirt week. Yes?
Next week is our recital. Woohoo!
The week after that is our post recital celebration week. Everybody who participated in recital should plan to come to class that week, so we can celebrate.
Another thing that we’re going to be doing very soon is our student evaluations. So, we’ve been talking to you about the path of progression that we put into place. One of the really important parts of that, that we’re doing, is our student evaluations, so you’ll be able to see how far your student has progressed; what specific things your student can work on to continue their progression and where we think they are headed for in the future. So, that’s what you can expect on those student evaluations. They’re coming very soon, so just a heads up on that.
Also, June 4th is our open studio and, who knows, by June 4th first Friday open studio may look a lot different than it did for open studio in May, so keep an ear out for any information related to that.
The very following week, the week of the 7th, June 7th, is the week we start learning the clog down showdown routine. Yeah? It should be awesome. Super excited.
That’s what’s coming up, okay? Please remember to keep those dates on the calendar.
And, P.S. Our recital is next week. So excited. I can’t wait.
Until then, happy dancing!
