Episode 68: Week of November 22nd, 2021

Audio Transcript

Hey, everyone. It’s Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon. This is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of November 22nd.

First, right off the bat.  This week, in classes, we only have classes on Monday and Tuesday this week.  So, scheduled classes will occur as usual Monday and Tuesday, so please join us for a bit of dancing right before the Thanksgiving holiday. We love dancing with you, so of course it’s always fun – but, just a heads up on that.  Classes will occur Monday and Tuesday this week.

All month long, for the month of November, our Tapping into ExcellenceTM leadership focus has been on community service. We’ve had a couple of community service projects that our students have been participating in and, of course, we’ve also been talking about just communities in general and the importance of contributing to and begin part of a community.

So, I did want to report on our community service projects.  First, we assembled hygiene kits.  Our students, in a matter of days, were able to assemble 100 hygiene kits that will be donated to Sheltering Silverton today.

I’m just really so impressed by this because it’s just one example of how quickly little, small acts of service – even tiny periods of time – can just compound when a group of people come together to support a cause.  It’s just a really amazing example of that.  And, I’m really proud of our students.  And, for those of you who would like to join us to participate in delivering those kits to Sheltering Silverton, come meet us at the Silverton Community Center, today, Monday, November 22nd, at 3pm and we will drop those off at Sheltering Silverton and even get more of a sense of what our contribution has been to our community, by personally delivering those kits.  Should be great.  Please join us today, 3pm, Silverton Community Center, November 22nd.

Alright, also, we are continuing to raise funds for Silverton Area Community Aid with our “Let them eat Pie” fundraiser.  You have just a few days, actually, until Monday, the 29th, to donate to the jars that are here, in the studio. Put your pocket change in the jar of the staff member you would like to see get a pie in the face.  And, we will have the final tally and the pie-ing Monday, November 29th (that’s next Monday) and we’ll have that here, at the studio, at 6:30. So, even if you don’t have classes, come join us for the pie-ing, come join us to celebrate our community, and it should be really, really great.  And, of course, we’ll remind you again.

It’s been a really awesome month. This has been a really great month focusing on community service.  And, thank you so much, for contributing, not just to our studio community but, to our community as a whole – in your time, your pocket change, your smiles, your attitudes – you guys are awesome.  We love our community here, at Silver Creek Clogging.

Competition students; so we do have a fundraising opportunity for you.  We have a booth at the Silverton farmers market. Our next booth will be December 11th. That will be a really great time for you to make some crafts; only non-food/non-agriculture type crafts we can sell there.  And, you can make those crafts and you can sell them to raise funds for your participation in competition.  So, if you want to or if you need to raise funds to help pay entry fees or travel expenses for participation at competition, start creating.  Like I said, the only limitation is that we can’t sell food or agriculture items at our booth.  But, December 11th, our next booth, is prime time for holiday season buying.  So, keep that in mind. Can’t wait to see what you make.  I might even make a little something or two.  And, yeah, we’ll see you at the market on December 11th

So, here’s what’s happening on the studio calendar and what’s upcoming.

Monday, November 22nd, that’s today, at 3:30, meet in the Silverton Community Parking lot and we’ll delivery hygiene kits to Sheltering Silverton.

Thanksgiving break. No classes Wednesday through Saturday, this week.

Monday, November 29th, join us at the studio to finish our “Let them eat pie” fundraiser.  We will have the pie-ing, we’ll eat a little bit of pie, and we’ll also have a little fun celebrating our month-long focus on community service – and our own spectacular studio community.

Saturday, December 11th. Silverton farmers market performance and fundraising opportunity for those who want to participate.

The week of December 12th, wear your ugly holiday shirt to class.

Winter break will be Wednesday, December 22nd through Saturday, January 1st. We will have no classes during that time, for winter break.

And then, Saturday, January 22nd is our winter showcase dress rehearsal and recital. And, please prepare for this to be outside, all right?

Saturday, January 29th is mid-winter festival in Albany.  It’s an all-day clogging workshop, so we’ll have some class handouts for you in the weeks to come

February. February 4th and 5th is our America OnStage competition, kick-off Oregon, in Portland, for our competition students.

February 10th through 12th is America OnStage competition, Kickoff Boise. It’s in Nampa.  That’s also only for our competition students.

And, then, May 13th and 14th our competition students should plan on nationals in Salt Lake City.

So, keep those competition events for our competitions tudents only.

And then, Saturday, June 4th, all of our students should plan on our summer kickoff dress rehearsal and recital at the Historic Grand Theatre in Salem.

So, please keep all of those events, all of those activities on your calendars.

Also, please plan, at some point, to dance at the Davenport House, once we’re a little bit out of the woods with COVID.

And, keep being awesome.  You guys are such an awesome group.  I just really do love this community that we have here, at Silver Creek Clogging. And, I really appreciate everything you do to contribute to the positive and the supportive atmosphere that we have here.  It’s so unique in the atmosphere that we have here, at Silver Creek Clogging.

Thank you so much for being part of Silver Creek Clogging. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones.  We’ll see you in class Monday and Tuesday and, of course, happy dancing.

Episode 67: Week of November 15th, 2021

Hey, everyone. It’s Ruth. I’m here at your Silver Creek Clogging Dance Movement Center in Silverton, Oregon and this is What’s Happening at Silver Creek Clogging the week of November 15th.

November, all month long, our Tapping into ExcellenceTM leadership focus is on community service. Service is prioritizing the needs of others. And, leadership can be one way to provide service; because the best leaders are those who serve the people that they are responsible for – by, one taking a sincere interest in them and two make sure the people they are responsible for have their needs met. So, that is one of the reasons why we’re talking about this.

And, did you know that it’s hard to get good at anything, including dancing, if you don’t have support. And, having a supportive group, in a supportive environment is really important. Which is one of the reasons why we have put such a huge focus on maintaining the really positive and the really supportive studio environment that we have here at Silver Creek Clogging. And, we thank you guys for your part in ensuring that we do have that positive and that supportive environment, where we can all work together as a community to make sure that we learn and we grow and we get our needs met. So, thank you so much.

We are doing a fundraiser this month, as part of our focus on community service, and that fundraiser is going to benefit SACA. This month, in the studio, you are voting with your pocket change for the staff member you want to see get a pie in the face at the end of the month. And right now, Ruth (yours truly) and Brooklyn are neck and neck in the lead. So, keep voting and on Monday, November 29th at 6:30 we will have the pie-ing, here at the studio, and a little bit of fun while we’re at it. So, keep voting and remember that all funds donated are gonna go to SACA.

Hygiene kits. That’s another thing that we’ve been doing here in the studio as part of our focus on community service this month. And, wowee! You guys, our students at Silver Creek Clogging, in less than a week – you guys assembled a hundred hygiene kits. Yeah.  So super proud of you guys. Thank you so much.  This is just one example of where small efforts by a group of people can make a huge impact in a short amount of time, and I’m so grateful for you guys. We’re going to be working with Sheltering Silverton to find out if there’s a time that we can drop those off; where you all, who worked hard to help put those kits together, can join us in delivering those to Sheltering Silverton. So, we’ll let you know. We’ll keep you informed and let you know if/when we have that delivery date available, so that if you want you can join us for that delivery. And, again, you guys rock.

This week, in the studio, we are doing something very special because every individual is unique, and that includes you. You are unique. And, to celebrate your uniqueness, this week in classes, instructors are going to be delivering a special note to each student that lets them know how much you are appreciated and what the special thing is that we appreciate about you, that you specifically bring to the studio. So, we say it often, and we’re gonna say it again, we have a very, very special studio community, here, and we are really, really grateful for you and we want to celebrate you. Because, we really appreciate you as an individual, for who you are. So, thank you so much for being you.

All right, next week in the studio – it’s Thanksgiving next week and Wednesday through Saturday, we will have no classes for the Thanksgiving break. So, just remember that Wednesday through Saturday next week the studio will be closed for Thanksgiving break and, of course, we’ll remind you about that in classes as well.

And, then, coming up, competition students, there’s a fundraising opportunity for you, to help you raise funds to pay for your competition entry fees and even travel costs, if you want. And, that opportunity is at the farmer’s market. So, competition students, you are invited and welcome and encouraged to make some crafts. They cannot be food related items (no food, no agriculture items), but you can sell your crafts at our farmers market booth to help raise funds for your participation in competition this upcoming season. So, if you want or need to sell items to help you raise money to participate in competition, then find something non-food/non-agriculture related that you can sell at our farmers market booth.

And, our next booth is on December 11th and it’s really a good time, especially for thinking of something that people might want to buy to give others, for Christmas. So, if you have an idea of something that you think would be a good Christmas gift, that would be a really good thing to think about selling. Christmas ornaments, anything holiday related that you think of, this is a really good time for that, specifically. And, don’t wait, because before you know it December 11th is going to be here. And, start now just making a few little items here and there, and so you’ll have a nice big group of items that you can sell at the farmer’s market table, December 11th. Put that on your calendar.

Also, everyone, keep on your calendar the following studio events.

Of course, Thanksgiving break is Wednesday, November 24th through Saturday, November 27th. That’s next week.

Saturday, December 11th is the Silverton farmers market. We’ll have a performance that day, for those who want to join, and we will also sell items for our competition students who want to raise money for their competition entry.

And, then, the week of December 12th, wear your ugly, or not ugly, holiday shirt to class.

Winter break is coming up. Wednesday, December 22nd through Saturday, January 1st, we will have no classes that week and a half. We’ll be taking off for the winter break.

And, then, next year. A lot going on next year, so let me just lay a few things out for you.

First, Saturday, January 22nd is our winter showcase recital and we are still working on the details for that; but look for that information upcoming. Saturday, January 22nd, winter showcase recital. Everybody should be planning to at least come to watch our dancers perform. That’s awesome.

And, then, Saturday, January 29th we have something super fun in Albany. There will be a workshop where an instructor, Andy Howard out of Georgia, is going to be coming to Oregon to teach a clogging workshop. He’s a really, really awesome dancer and a really awesome instructor and I have been excited about him returning. And, anyone who is kind of at the higher beginning level and above, would be really welcome and able to come to that workshop and have a really good time. If you’re brand new, it might be a little bit challenging for you, but we’ll talk more about that in class and have some handouts for you.

And, then, February. February 4th and 5th is our Oregon kickoff competition in Portland.

February 10th through 12th is America OnStage kickoff competition in Boise. It’s actually in Nampa – but kickoff Boise.

And, then, May 13th and 14th is nationals in Salt Lake City.

And, Saturday, June 4th, 2022 is our summer kickoff dress rehearsal and recital.

So, keep all of those dates and all of those events on your calendars.

Of course, only our competition students need to worry about those competition dates, but you know who you are.

And, of course, we still have the Davenport House performance on our calendar, as well, for when we can schedule that.

Lots of stuff coming up, lots of fun happening at Silver Creek Clogging, in and out of the studio.

Remember to bring your pocket change to class this week and next week. Those are our last, really, two weeks to raise funds for SACA. So, keep bringing your pocket change, keep voting with your pocket change, so that we can have a good donation to give to SACA.

And, we’ll have a little fun, also, on the 29th of November (Monday, November 29th) for the pie-ing, all right.

You guys are awesome. I’m so grateful for you. We have a really, really unique community and I’m so glad you’re a part of it. Thank you.

And, until we see you in class, happy dancing.
